Hi guys

I've had quite a strange fault occurring with my GP which is probably just due to the window needing tightening or something..

Basically, when I use the Windscreen wiper stalk to activate that back windscreen washer, the water, rather than running down the back window, seems to be dripping into the back of the car and dripping into the boot

Any one have any idea how to resolve this ?

Ours did this, then one day the rear windscreen almost fell out.
Fortunately the daughter caught it in time, and stuck it down with gaffer tape.

The local glass fitter said they'd seen loads of GP's do this, but i've never heard anyone on here suggest such a thing.

However, can you see it dripping down the inside of the glass.
If not then the pipe where it comes in through the rubber boot (left hand side) could be split.

Well that's alarming! So you're saying the rear windscreen could well be loose? Andy ideas how I could tighten it?

The water simply drips from the roof of the car onto the boot cover.. So rather than running down the rear windscreen, the water just comes vertically down.

Any ideas?

Check the washer pipe between where it comes into the hatch from the car body to the washer jet. The jet is part of the high level brake light. There's a thread in tutorials on how to remove that

Open the boot lid to your left there is a long black rubber grommet pull that from the body and inspect the wires and washer pipe that runs through it, this is common fail point on the g.p's you can fix yourself with a washer pipe connector it's fiddley but inexpensive to fix if it's that

Peter, i think you should investigate a little further, be a little more specific as the where the water is coming from.
The water pipe runs from the upper left corner above the rear light cluster, to the middle of the boot lid.

The rear washer, is built in to the high level brake light, which its self is fitted to the boot lid.
So in theory, the water never actually goes anywhere near the roof.

Lift the boot lid and notice 2 black oval rubber grommets behind the high level brake light. If the water is coming from around there, then it may just be a split pipe.
If you remove the grommets, you may be able to see where it's leaking.

With ours, water (including rain water) was running down the inside of the glass. Not a great deal, but enough to notice water marks etc.
Then one day the back screen fell out.

You can't tighten them as they are glued in. On ours the glue had failed.
As we'd managed to save it, it only cost us about £30 to have it refitted.

Thanks for your help so far guys. Done a bit more research, and here are some more pics.

I opened the rear door and removed the grommet from left hand side, looks like one of the pipes seems to be very wet and soaked in water after I try to use the rear washer.

Does that mean a burst pipe is lost likely ?

Yes highly likely, I had the same issue in my car and had to mend the washer pipe. Exactly the same symptoms (no pressure to the jet, and when used water just use to run out of the bottom of the car.) the wet wires show evidence of a split.

My break/split was right in the middle of the pipe in the rubber sleeve, meaning the water ran back down inside and then out the bottow of the car. I would expect that your split might be a little higher up/further along as the water is running into the boot rather than the body of the car. (just an idea)

As an FYI, myself and another member fixed it by cutting the split section out and fitting a piece of brake pipe between the two bits (cable tied the ends and then heat gunned the rubber pipe to ensure there was a seal) - Do this at your own risk obviously, or get the whole pipe replaced (no idea how much this would cost etc)
