Right, it was stripped down today and it's leaking from the following points, head gasket, cam shaft seals (o-ring) and rocker cover gasket. It seems it was having a party of its own in there, anyway, gaskets and seals ordered, head sorted, reassembly tomorrow, not looking forward to the bill!

FAIR, :)

not cheap..but they've done a fair job for a fair price(y)

I would be looking towards a breather/ crankcase pressure issue though, if oils coming out of so many joints:eek:

Very good point ;)
Never thought that.

A blocked pvc valve can cause epic fails on turbocharged cars. But this is a n/a engine hmm

Maybe there was a HG fail leading to increased oil pressure?

It's running nicely now.

With reference to the price, it's odd because Euro Car Parts and other motor factors read the registration as a 1.2 8v but the car is a 1.4 16v, they sent the wrong parts. My Tech tried other motor factors and the same problem arose, so all of the parts had to be ordered from FIAT, hence the price being elevated.

It's definitely a 1.4 but appears as a 1.2 when they put in the reg, odd if you ask me...................

It's bizarre because his old Punto Sport was a 1.2 16v and in terms of power and acceleration it killed this one, that was supposed to be 80bhp and this replacement 95bhp but you'd never guess, the old one was quicker in all aspects.

yes this seems to be a common issue, try to lubricate the barrel mechanism (wd-40 is good only to get it unstuck). If you fail to get it working there is only one way, to replace it (If you think this is useful anyway)

Don't use WD40 on locks except in an emergency ! Long term it makes the problem worse as it attracts muck, causes tumblers to stick and although it frees some types of corrosion it doesn't really lubricate. Much much better is dry graphite powder, available in small "puffer" tubes from a locksmith or online. You'll be amazed how well that works !

Watermann (ex locksmith !)

Correct that's why I said it's good only to get it unstuck.
You have to use a proper lubrication after that.

I use always white lithium.

Don't forget that the Grande is a lot heavier, and is geared for economy.

Sporting 1.4 16v 2003-2006 model weights ~960kg when the 1.2 16v is only 895kg !

Grande 1.4 16v "starjet" weights ~ 1035kg (+ 17" wheels if it's a sport version that makes it slower/heavier)

Plus, it's the "same" engine but modified to meet new emission limits that makes it even worse lol

HELP!

The GP has starting making some funny noises today, a metallic clanking from the engine bay, I've opened the hood and checked around and everything seems intact, the only thing moving around is the airbox, I've notice a threaded hole at the back, should this have a fastening of some sort, could this be the noise?

Thanks!

Any idea on the above?

Thanks.

1) starjet is the 1.4 16v naturally aspirated engine.

2) about the filter box, looks like it's broken.

Normally there's a long bolt on the intake manifold holding the box down.

Fix it before it melts on the exhaust shield. (It's a common problem)
