My 59 plate 1.4 8v failed to start unexpectedly - all dash lights ok but car wouldn't turn over even with a jump from another car, so battery probably ok and decided to change the starter motor. No change but noticed a spring washer in the plastic cover over the terminal had broken in half - this spring washer clamps the ignition feed to the starter terminal so guessed it might have created a dodgy/loose/intermittent connection preventing the starter turning. I superglued it back together to get the spring tension back and make a good connection until a replacement arrives at the dealer. Still no turning over - checked power to term 30 on the starter relay and no power.........hmmm

Decided to check any fault codes and when removing the cover found an Orangeade tracker unit fitted by a previous owner - traced the cables back to the ignition switch harness on the back of the switch and removed the tracker cable that was spliced into the main wire from the ignition switch and made good the wire.

Tried the ignition and car started first try!!! Don't know why it might have stopped working - maybe subscription ended or fault in the unit but glad I found it as I was thinking it might have been expensive electronics - phew!!!!
