Does anyone know of a guide for changing the rear discs / pads, i know the procedure isnt that much different from the front discs and obviously there is a guide for the fronts but I'm worried about how to deal with the handbrake as ive never done rear discs or pads before (last car had drums which I didnt have to replace during my ownership)

Or possibly if there aren't any guides, could someone with the fiat workshop manual (i believe its a windows program) screenshot the part re; rear disc change as im on a mac :bang:

I'd be eternally grateful!

Jack

you don't really need a step by step guide, it's a very simple procedure to be fair.

There are two bolts holding the caliper on to the carrier.
I think 13mm head.
You should see these running through a rubber boot if it helps identify which two.

With a bit of argie bargie the caliper will come away from the carrier.
Pop the old pads out of the carrier, clean muck and crud from the carrier.
Put the new pads in.
A bit of heat proof grease on the moving parts would be beneficial.

The only tricky part is pushing the pistons back in, you'll need one of these.

Thanks for your comment. Is there anything i need to do with the handbrake when im removing the rotor. Doing pads and rotors, ive done pads before - i know what you mean about the piston takes some real elbow grease if you dont have the proper tool. But back to the handbrake, do you have to back off the handbrake with the adjuster or can you just take the rotor off, i dont wanna pull it off and the handbrake to be knackered. Thats the bit thats confusing me.

Hand brake off otherwise you won't get the disc off as the handbrake shoes will be hard against them!! Otherwise as noted above. It maybe worth while backing off the shoes a bit (ie making the retract a tad) as you will be putting on a new disc which will be very, very slightly thicker. Once disc is on adjust back up a wee bit but you may not need to. If you can have both rears off the ground so that once everything is back together you can try the hand brake on and off to make sure the handbrake shoes do not need adjusted up a bit. Then handbrake off, wheels on and make sure the wheel turns freely. Put handbrake on and then make sure wheel will not turn. Would recommend checking everything after a few miles have been driven. All your bolts should be in good nick but just make sure you don't start burring the heads this early 'cos it's a pita trying to get burred head bolts off on an old car!!!
