Hi

I am currently getting 38 to 44mpg. when i first got the car i was getting 48mpg + around town urban and 52mpg + on motorways.

Does anyone know why my mpg could go down so much. The car recently got serviced over 1000 miles ago.

k thanks cadabena yh will see next week.
Its my first car so just wanted to make sure.

I have to disagree, my fuel economy goes up over the winter, partly because of not using aircon and partly because of that nice dense cold air going through the super cooled intercooler

Anyway I'd question the figures you were getting as a 1.3 multijet should be getting in the 50s mpg wise at all times, when the official figures are in the 60s

The poor figures could be due to blocked induction pipes or stuck egr
It definitely needs further investigation

Sorry but I have to disagree, I've lived with the 1.3 over 40,000 miles and have found year after year on big trips I'm hitting 60-70mpg over summer (highest being 73.4 WITH air con on over a 110 mile trip), then 50-60mpg during winter (with air con on sometimes, it's a godsend for demisting). And then town driving is about 30-40mpg in winter, 40-50mpg in summer.

It takes a LONG time for the 1.3 to get up to operating temperature, and naturally it takes even longer in winter which is a big factor on economy. During this time, it's horribly inefficient... for 1-2 mile trips you might not even see 30mpg!

Cold air increases performance that's true but a cold engine consumes more fuel until block, coolant and oil reaches the optimal temp.

I've had mine since 2008 and covered 70,000 miles in that time (now on 111k miles) and in the last 24,000 miles I've been tracking my fuel use versus miles covered (not using the dash mpg figures at all) and noticed a quite prominent increase in economy over the winter months.

Everyone's driving style is slightly different as is everyone's journey to work I know full well the characteristics of the 1.3mjt and Ive never seen an average figure as low as 30mpg (might go down to 11mpg for a few seconds if you bury the throttle) the average for the last 24,874 miles is 61.98mpg

I'm sorry but samob's 38-44mpg is worse than I'm currently getting in my 1.4 petrol Punto grande, that's pretty bad for a multijet if you think 38-44mpg is acceptable then I suggest you also have an issue

We had a Mito 1.3 90bhp m-jet. Mainly used in town. MPG for that was early 40's.

It is known the diesel economy suffers a lot in winter, and that winter diesel with its anti waxing agents in also uses more.

called up a mechanic and he asked me to come down to the garage. he had a look around the car and couldn't find a problem with it???
he did say aswell that the winter can be affecting it as it will need alot of extra fuel to start and keep it running when cold.

I haven't took it on a long run for at least 2 months now.

gonna take it to another garage on monday which done my service and changed my glow plugs.
my fiat grande punto 1.3 multijet has got 60k miles

k just updating you lot. The other garage the one that changed my glow plugs and done my service can't find a problem either with the car.
So i decided to get some wynn's xtreme diesel system clean. but but i did reset the clocks so the average consumption reset ,after leaving the garage i manged to keep the car on 50 mpg around town and done over 40 miles and its still above 50mpg. i did notice on start up of the car that the average consumption will drop 2 or 3 mpg??

im still gonna put this system clean in when i next top up.
Ive used octane boosters and system cleaners on motorbikes for years.
see if it does the trick. :)
