It's an 08 1.4 8v. Currently on 48K miles and no mention of a change in service book. Also is it best to have it done at a Fiat dealer or would a normal garage be ok?

I would say it is due mate that and the water pump I would get a few quotes from some local independent garages.

Of course mate its fine to drive iirc the handbook says 4 years for high mileage or 5 for low mileage. Even when it is changed mate there is no guarantee it wont go at any time!

It's unlikely to just go, but at 6 years old it'll certainly not be as tight as it was when new. I think Fiat recommend every 6 years or 60k, whichever comes first, so ASAP really.
