Hi, I have purchased a new remote central locking key that I need programmed and also the blade cut. I know you can order the key from fiat but I did not want to pay the £200...well I couldnt afford it! However, if I take this genuine part would they do it? Obviously I know I'd be charged. Just hoping it'd be cheaper.

So just the programming and cutting of the blade. Locksmiths in my area all say they cannot do it :bang:. It's a genuine Virgin key.

Thanks

Where did you buy it and how do you know it's genuine?

Places like gimps on should be able to cut the key blade, then I'd go to the dealership and ask them to program the new key (it will have to work in the ignition for them to program it) they will then need to order in your cars program code which is likely to cost £30 and however much they charge for an hours labour which can be another £50-60+ then sometimes they may claim they need to do a diagnostic (because they are knobs) and this could cost another £50

What ever the case you need to start by getting the key cut.

If it's not genuine it might not be able to be programmed so be 100% sure before you go to the dealer as if you're wrong you will still get charged if they try to program it and it fails

If the key wasn't ordered from Fiat specifically for your car then it will Not work if the dealers tries to program it. The keys for most Fiats come partially programmed to the car already. Without this pre-coding of the key it will not work. You'll just be waisting your money if you try to program it as is.
The only way to get your key programmed by an auto locksmith who has the appropriate equipment. To do it they will need to change the pcf7946 transponder in the key as this will be locked to the car the key was intended for. Then they will need to read the data from your cars BSI to prepare the key and then program it to the car. Assuming you have the correct remote there are several types and externally they all look the same. To make sure you have the correct remote you will have to open the key. If its the correct key there will be a 14 legged chip on the circuit board with "NXP pcf7946" written on it and "Delphi" written on the circuit board. If it has "Magneti Marelli" written on the circuit board it can still be used but the but the remote buttons will be in the wrong order.

It is a genuine Fiat, DELPHI, I purchased the key from an automotive key supplier and was assured it can be coded to any grande punto by an autolocksmith. We'll see I suppose.

No problem you will need an auto locksmith that does eprom work. If the key has just a602 written on the blade you should be fine if it also has Ricambi written on it then it may need a fresh transponder chip. Don't know where about's you are
but if you get stuck let me know and I'll help you out if I can.

Here is some information others may find useful. I called Fiat Aldershot and Guildford.

They can supply a Grande Punto key for £211.91

Programming is £60.00

If you buy a key elsewhere they can program it for you but you'll also need to buy the remote code if you do not have it for £44.40.

I have lost my remote key and will definitely be looking at getting one in the new year. Just wondering if you know the best place to get a genuine key as it would literally just be the cost of the key and £100 for fiat to code etc? Is this what you're doing? Did you just get the blade cut normally also?

Yeah, I picked up my key for 60, then programming and getting the code is 100 on top of that. Yes you'll need to get it cut. I'll pm you regarding where I got the key.

I really wouldn't bother buying the keys from Ebay. The hardest thing to do will be finding someone to program the key for you. If you find someone that does these then they will already have them and most likely at a better price!
All the ones I have seen come from Ebay have either been the wrong remote, already locked so need new transponders, Or more commonly iffy Chinese copys.
Before you buy anything find someone that can program it for you. The dealer
can NOT program these keys for you if they were not supplied by Fiat specifically for your car.
