Hi
recently bought a 56 grande punto sporting for my sons first car. The gearbox has started whining in first & second. No real play on the gearstick.

Looked into replacing gearbox, loads of M32 gearboxes about for different makes and models, anyone have any ideas if they are all the same and interchangable.

Has anyone replaced bearings themselves on a M32 box, is it an easy job, garage costs a bit pricey ???

:bang:

The boxes are not the same.
They are different for the different engines.. 1.4 t-jet.. 1.9 mjt.. the 2.0 turbo on the VXR.. and so on.
They have different different gear ratios.. and maybe even different bell-housings.

In your stead i would just replace the bearings... at least this way you would have brand new bearings.

Removing the gearbox is a diy job if you have a good set of sockets, jack stands, and a friend with 2x20 minutes to spare helping you get the box off and on .

Not to sure about replacing the bearings... you might need some new gaskets and maybe some clips..

I had a full brand new bearing kit fitted to my Astra's M32 'box by AS Autocare. They did a cracking job and it was in and out the same day...
