I'm looking at some alloys, they're Rota Kyusha's 17x9 ET12 all round. Apart from having to get pcd adapters, anybody think these won't fit in terms of width? What's the widest I can go on the front and back? Will coilovers affect the ability to run these wheels aswell? Any help appreciated, thanks!

Standard wheels on a grande are 15x6 so you're talking about going 3 inches wider than standard.... You'd probably easily get away with 7, it would be hit or miss with 8inch wide wheels you might have to roll the arches, but I really don't think a 9 inch wheel would fit without having to seriously widen the arches and manage the offset which might mean that you need such large spacers and much longer bolts that they would be unsafe, having consulted the interweb you'd need to fit tires 255 wide which is massive for any fiat

Would be very wise to consult a expert on wheels, like a professional aftermarket wheel centre before going ahead with this

Mine are 17x7 standard bud, I've seen guys running 9j on the back just not sure on the front which is more important. I would also be stretching the 9j's on my current 205 tyres which isn't a ridiculous stretch either. The problem I have found when researching is a) the wheels are wider so will stick out more meaning I have to camber them b) the et will mean they are pushed out more so it would actually be like going up 4 inches in width. Thanks for your input, I am still undecided though :/

Hey,

It is possible to run 9J front and back on the Grande's as they're arches are HUGE.

I personally run 9x16 et25 all round. No spacers etc.

The problems I see you'll face are that...

A) the lower offset to me would meet your wheels would poke out a lot further than mine and tbh, mine are pretty ridiculous. (I've gotten Police fines for them to prove, haha)

B) Being 17's, you wouldn't realistically get much of a drop on Coilovers etc before you start rubbing or indeed fouling the arch itself.

I keep a set of the sporting 17's for when the 17's are off for refurbs etc and I have to raise the front high above the tyre and remove the rear camber just to be able to drive with no rubbing of arches.

C) Rear camber, I can't see how this is going to be able to keep the rim anywhere near the arches as they'll poke so much.

Using www.willtheyfit.com to compare our setups. You'll be 13mm wider than mine and my rears are cambered, a lot.

You'd be fine with regards to fouling the suspension components as yours will be further away from mine.

I notice you've a T-Jet.....? Personally I wouldn't stretch at all on "performance models", mine slow as...., 40 mph if I'm lucky being this low.

Be interested to see how this turns out.

May have missed other stuff, wrote this in a bit of a rush :)

My insurance actually dropped, significantly compared to insuring it as standard.

Each to their own and all that. I don't understand why people feel the need to spend on super fast cars, we all have the same limited speed roads to travel.

If you park your car, lock it and walk away without looking back - you bought the wrong car.

Thanks for the response buddy this has cleared up quite a lot!
I have now moved away from the Rota's and have a set of RH ZW1's on my radar. They are 8.5J fronts ET53 (ET33 With adapters) and 9J rears (ET27 with adapters) how do you think these will fit? Am I right in saying they will poke less due to the higher offset?

With regard to the drop, how low will I be able to go on these 17's also considering the fact that I have the blighted T-jet :bang: and the driveshaft likes to pop out if I were to go really low!

I have scrapped the whole idea of camber really I am all for form>function but when you're chewing threw tyres every couple of months it gets stupid.

Is that picture with the polo from players? If so then I may have seen your car I was with caraudiosecurity. In response to the stretching, I just want more of a stanced look, I'm not really aware of how much running 9J rears and 8.5J fronts will slow my car down.. but definitely don't wanna be stuck at 40 haha, let me know how much you think it would slow me down please!

From what I see, yes they'll retract on the front and the rears would be pretty much the same as mine.

I once had 40mm springs prior to fitting coilovers and they were ok with no rubbing etc. I'd only really be able to hazard a guess on actual drop but I'd always recommend coilovers for those unsure as they're obviously adjustable.

Mines only a 1.4 8v and touch wood mine are still intact, even at my drop. Seen others on here have that problem, Dom130 had it at one point, this was years ago now and I'm not sure they're still a member. Sure someone was looking into sourcing longer ones.

This is also a reason why I now run multiple vehicles. the Punto (form) Lupo GTi (runaround) and a work Transit (function) ... :) though I'm slowly swapping the Punto and Lupo around. I'm a VW guy haha.

Slight camber could work.

Yeah it was, good spot ;) that's my younger brothers. I'll almost certainly be taking one of the cars next year.

I didn't mean that the tyres themselves would slow the car down, more the whole stance. Obviously you won't go quite as mad as me, but I literally have to drive round bottle caps and well, any form of non perfectly flat road. But I love her how she is. If you're only dropping 40-55mm then you'll probably not have to worry too much even at speedbumps.

What i meant about stretching on a performance vehicle was more the case of the added strain on the sidewall of the tyres found corners, I've seen it before where the bead will unseat itself on a bend. Just a warning. (Also the reason why I refused to fit them to a neighbours Subaru)
