Well people it's time to leave this place. My grande punto sporting with having leather seats does now fit her 3 children in the back. I'm traded it in against a 1.4 honda civic sensible thing as I couldn't put it off any more. To be truthful I'm gutted. I love my punto but life has changed.

Anyway just wanted to say thank you for all the advice and help over the three years I've had the car and I hope you all have a great Christmas and a merry new year.

Peace.

Mate, you have literally done EXACTLY what I did as well!
Honda CIVIC FTW lol!

Although the GP has a seriously deep place in my heart... maybe, just maybe one day I will have enough to find my precious Satsumi - Red with white striped GP again

Really? What civic you got mate. I'm properly gonna miss my punto. 34000 miles I've done in 3 years and it's never had a service since I picked it up. It even servived a full tank of petrol and 20 mile journey on it. Great car and won't hear a bad word said against it. :)

The older shape Anniversary Edition VTECH Civic Type R
An absolute beauty, bought it from my uncle - who had it serviced at Honda every year since new, unbelievable build as well, so fun to drive.

You will love the civic.

Same boat as you, my 1.9 MJET GP was amazing when she was ok, then niggles crept in and kept coming up.
So I traded in.
I just hope no one here has picked her up as the turbo was on the way out...

Today has been a sad farewell to my 56 reg Grande Punto Dynamic – and now to this forum. I am adding to an existing thread rather than starting a new one

At the time of purchase (16 years ago) these cars were a good buy for the money for someone who wanted a reasonably specified new vehicle. It has done very well over the years, but has now started to accumulate a number of issues. Realistically these cannot be ecomomically fixed, and even if they could some other fault would quickly manifest itself. So I am quite pleased to get £300 for its scrap value, and to know it will be responsibly dismantled.

I may have been relatively quiet, but I have appreciated this forum over the years, have been helped on occasion, and I hope some of my posts have assisted others.

I have recorded expenditure on the vehicle, so the following may be of interest.

Initial cost of purchase approximately £8,000

Total running cost (servicing, repairs, tax, insurance, breakdown assistance etc – but excluding fuel)

£12,500

Fuel for 104,500 miles £12,722.

These figures need to be interpreted carefully since over the past 16 years the value of money has halved by inflation. But with this caveat:

Total annual cost of ownership (excluding fuel) £1,300 – of which £500 is depreciation on initial purchase.

Total cost per mile (fuel, other running cost, depreciation) 32p per mile.

Hope this is of interest. I am now acquiring a Toyota Yaris Hybrid – which will be a new experience.

Thank you for all your help and all the best
