Hi i have a GP T Jet and am really happy with it. However i want to do some performance upgrades to it. i already have AP coilovers, forge sub frame braces, continental sport contact 5's all round, forge induction and 2.5" decat straight through pipe. now i know that i want to get the forge intercooler, turbo actuator and eventually get a remap. not sure whether i want to upgrade the turbo or not yet as i have a few questions. is it good for the engines? do you have to forge the engine? how much difference will i actually notice? and if i am going to do this, is it best to get the turbo first or tune my car with the stanard turbo, ie. inducntion, exhaust, actuator and intercooler and obviously map after. would be good to hear from some good/heavy tuners. i am based over near heathrow area if someone wanted to meet with the puntos and have a tuning chat haha. regards, James.

What power are you looking for? for something like 160-180 you don't need much more that turbo, intercooler and remap.
I would say you don't kneed any mods to the engine internals for something below 190-200 hp.
First on the list should be the VL36 turbo. then the intercooler. With the vl36 turbo you might have no need for the forge actuator.

You might also swap to the 6speed M32 gearbox because i know there is a LSD available for it.

Yeah, around 160-180 mark. What sort of power would i be looking at with modding the standard turbo? What gearbox does the m32 come from?

Im thinking the vl37 is the standard t jet turbo? Are the vl36 and 38 the two possible upgrades

Yes that's correct, the vl37 is the standard turbo used in the t-jet. The vl36 is the one used in the AGP and the vl38 is the one used in the Abarth 500. All are direct replacements :)

So if i were to upgrade turbo to vl36, what would i need to be careful of, apart from the obvious like maintenance practices, like oil and filters etc. ?

You see i originally wanted to keep the standard turbo, upgrade intercooler actuator exhaust induction and then remap it. What sort of gains would i be looking at when i do this?

I've recently bought a vl36 (not fitted yet as adding all other supporting mods first then remap once vl36 is on). However people have just stuck the vl36 on and ran it for months with no remap etc and it's functioned fine, with a bit more power too.

From what I've read, you can add all the mods you've mentioned but not be able to pass around 160 bhp with the vl37 turbo (stock).

If you managed to get your hands on a vl36/38 and along with the exhaust, intercooler etc the upgraded turbo would bring you up to around 170-180 bhp.

If you find a vl36/38 for a good price then I don't see why you shouldn't buy one, however they are hard to come by now and I'm sure 160 bhp from the stock turbo would provide a noticeable difference also.

Up to you I guess :D
