I have a 2010 Grande Active 1.4 ('59 plate) and both the rear window winders have failed! Both pieces of glass slip down and then stop. The winder handles are jammed and don't turn round. I have viewed a few videos on u-tube but any recommendations for other videos, repair manuals, tutorials etc. would be great.

Is there a workshop manual available? I notice Haines don't cover later Puntos. There seem to be some on-line manuals and CDs available. Has anyone used them?

My local Fiat dealer has quoted me £525 for the job and I'm sure that's a tad expensive. I thought about a court action as this is poor on a 4.5 year old car. It looked like a lot of hassle for an uncertain result. Fiat offered a generous 25% reduction! I didn't take this up as it still seemed expensive.

Many thanks.

It's common for the rear winders to break when the windows aren't regularly used. You can fix them yourself for roughly £35 each (see here and here for example). It's such a simple job, see here for comments by myself and others who've done the repair.

Cadabena,

Many thanks for the reply and helpful links. I'm hoping to get to the job at the end of this week coming and will report back!

The windows weren't used a lot so I probably thought this would make them last longer!

Yes, this job can be done! Many thanks for the help from Cadabena. Here are a few things that I hope might be helpful to others, in addition to the links provided by Cadabena....

I used the links above to order the parts on-line and they arrived in a couple of days and looked well made and up to the job (time will tell!)

Once you have used your hex (Allen) key to take out the three securing bolts (one behind a little plastic cover) from the interior trim panel and the two square-head/pozi screws at the bottom, start at either side with your flat screwdriver and carefully lever/prize the trim away, then do the other side. There are no fastenings along the lower edge. Refer to Cadabena's instructions to lift/free-up the trim panel.

The trim panel will not be released until you have taken the handle off the regulator (winder) lever! (Believe me, I tried!) For those of you (like me) who don't take regulator handles off doors every day, this can be a little fiddly but you will find that once you have released the trim panel, as above, it becomes possible. What you are trying to do is to take the small clip (a 'circlip') off the spindle of the regulator. If you gently prize the regulator handle away from the panel a bit using your hand on the end of the handle, you can start to see inside, between the handle and the circular trim bit that sits in the trim panel. Look for the silver end of the clip and have a medium sized screwdriver ready to push the end away from the regulator handle to unclip it. Once unclipped the handle comes off! It's worth searching on-line beforehand (now he tells us!) for something like 'removing window regulator handle' and you will find a whole new bunch of friends who have recorded videos showing various techniques, all of which seem to work for them. ..and they show you how easy it is to later re-fit the handle!

Once the trim panel is safely removed (see Cadabena's links).....

Ease away the gloopy glue that holds the plastic membrane in place, starting from the none-hinge side of the door and peel it back just enough to reveal the four nuts that need to come off the release the old regulator mechanism. The membrane doesn't need to come off completely.

Using Cadebena's links will sort you out for what really is an easy job from now-on in! You will just have to use trial and error to get the old regulator out and the new one in! The only other small tip is that instead of trying to unclip the old plastic clip at the base of the window, just snip through it and use the free length of the clip to get more leverage to unclip it from behind the glass. I found that the easiest window position to re-clip on the new one was about mid-way but you can chose your own window position by simply temporarily replacing the regulator handle.

Best of luck and thanks to the Forum!
