On Fri night someone smashed the hell out of my passenger side wing mirror, bent the unit back, ripped the back off, then threw all the bits all over the road.

Thankfully, they didn't manage to wrestle it off the car, and the wiring is still working for the motorised side of it, and I've posted the pics at the link below, but was advised to doing check on this forum - is a mirror and back easily clippable on? I guess Ebay is where to go, but would welcome advice on precisely which one to get.

I think I'll get a wide-angle mirror, as that'd be a help.

It's a 1.2 2008 '08' Fiat Punto Active, and the penultimate picture shows the label inside, hoping that helps. As I've uploaded the pics on the other link, I didn't want to waste server space by reuploading them to this thread. Hope that's okay.

Thanks in advance.

As far as I'm aware it's vandalism. I wish I'd gone out after they'd passed, as the first thing I knew about them was when they'd gone round the corner of my house (I'm on the end of the road, and AFAIK my car was the only one nearby that was smashed like that, and so if anyone had gone past it at serious speed they would've gone straight into a car and then house without turning the corner)

I woke around 6am to find a fire engine in a nearby road, and later learned that a local industrial estate had been set on fire. I don't know if it was related to these lads, as they passed by around midnight, but while I wouldn't normally bother reporting such damage to the police, I did so this time just in case the two were linked.

A neighbour suggested that a fire engine might've come down our road and done that, but it shouldn't have done (and certainly not in the direction to knock the mirror frontways) unless the fire engine had decided to go on an additional tour of our streets for no reason.

Also, the fact all the back has come off, including the bottom bit (which I can't seem to find a replacement for on Ebay - and the bottom bit is the only thing I've got left from the casing, and it doesn't clip back on so I hope they haven't fudged that), and remnants of glass fragments had gone onto the car like dust, shows that they've pounded the mirror repeatedly. You can see how it looks in one of the pictures.

In the last week, I've been looking up replacement parts, and while I can find a new mirror and main back casing for around £20 combined, I can't find replacements for the small plastic bits on the shaft. Now, while I've got those bits and could superglue them back on (since they won't clip in any more), it's going to look rubbish.

An alternative is a used one for around £40, or a new one for around £60, so out of those two I may as well go with the latter. However, I can't find a link to a how-to video for this particular mirror. Anyone know of one, please?

I'd really appreciate it if someone has any links to a how-to video, please, and/or knows whether I need to take the door card off inside. A colleague had a look at it and said if I get a replacement he should be able to fit it, as he's good with cars.

I've seen used ones on Ebay for £42, a new one for £59, while my local garage wants £192 to supply and fit!

Is it not in the technical manual?

I don't think I've got one. I've got the service manual from when I bought it from a garage, but unless the technical manual is somewhere I've not found it yet, it seems unlikely.

I figured someone on here must've changed a wing mirror at some point :(
