Hi,
I have recently purchased a Fiat Grande punto 2006, 1.2 petrol. We have put it into our local garage and they cant seem to find the source of this problem. We are going to put it into a Fiat dealers but wondered if anyone on here has any idea what it maybe or has had a similar problem....

ok so the problem..
the car is fine driving at speed however when the car comes to a standstill or very slow speed, and the revs drop below 600 rpm the car starts to rev by itself up to about 1500 rpm. We have had the following changed :
-throttle body
-crank shaft sensor
-map sensor

anyone have any ideas, thank you in advance

Becky.

You mean there's a sudden rev drop from ~850 (normal idle) to 600 and then engine rev to 1500 and stay there for how long?

hi, i am trying to included a link to a video on youtube that has a very similar problem

the revs drop as normal when slowing down but continue to drop to sometimes as low as 500rpm, after which the engine will rev to around 1500 but this isnt a precise figure as it constantly changes, then revs will drop again and the whole thing starts again. (this process as a whole only takes around five seconds before it starts again)

In the video you posted he says that the problem was the lambda sensor.

Don't replace anything anyway. Grab a cheap elm327 obd adapter and read the values of lambda sensors, map, air temp etc... could be anything.

Had a similar problem with my 1.4 16v and it turned out there was a split pipe under the Airbox, something to do with the idle control valve. Some tape solved the problem!

just fyi, there's no idle control valve on 1.4 16v engines. It's controlled electronically via intake butterfly.

So you mean oil breather hose ;)
It's a classic problem also.
