Hi everybody,
Just a quick background story, about 4 weeks ago my car decided to blow its self up so the next day I got a full engine block for £300! which included injectors, the flywheel, clutch the whole shebang it was an absolute steal
so 3 weeks later its had the full engine swap completed, the car has had pretty much a new engine. It had the cambelt, waterpump, compression check, full service! everything has been done.
The first night I took it out the car ran amazing, the turbo was boosting when it should no knocks or anything.
But.....
Then i started to get a high pitched squeal which me and my mate thought at first it was the AC pump due to it having no gas. But when going up a hill I had the high pitched squeal, the turbo boosted as and when it should then changed to 4th and the squeal had gone but the exhaust went really deep and the turbo wasn't boosting till over 3000rpm!
So the next day me and my mate had a look and the squeal was there when cold again and we noticed it was coming from the turbo manifold. A simple nut had come lose in the top right corner of the manifold, so we tightened it up and the squeal went but the exhaust now sounds deep all the time! plus this didn't fix the turbo lag issue, the turbo still wasn't boosting till 3000rpm but now after a couple of days it seems to be getting worse it doesn't seems to boost till 3500-4000 if at all?
There's been no white smoke with a hint of blue suggesting the turbo has gone and like I say it still boosts and you can hear it spool ever so slightly but at first you could hear the turbo spooling from down the road when in neutral just revving the engine.
What we have check so far:
EGR- on my previous engine I blanked off the EGR valve so Ive put the blanking plate on this new engine so that eliminates the EGR right? but this time round the engine light comes on even though there is a hole in the blanking plate but it didn't do it previously?
Wastegate- we've checked the wastegate by pulling on it and it seems to open and close so no problems there.
Pipes- all pipes look connected up properly, we removed them all yesterday to check and nothing seems wrong.
Sensors- i've disconnected the maf sensor it still runs them same. I swapped the map sensor over still runs the same.
conclusions:
Could it be a blown exhaust or manifold gasket of some sort?
pre-leak turbo?
turbo actuator? - how would i test this?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated! I can't keep driving my friends 1.4 mini one everywhere its driving me crazy :bang: I need the power on the 1.9 turbo again
