Hi guys I'm new to this forum. I bought my 1.2 gp active 2 weeks ago and I think I might have a coolant leak I have notice that sometimes when I start my car the mfd says coolant temp high. I have had to top the coolant up a couple of times. Any suggestions will be happily received

Hi,and welcome to FF,

what colour coolant have you got..??

the old-stlye BLUE stuff will leave a whitey-blue Furry trace where it leaks..
have a look around the engine bay + under the front bumper.. for a leaky radiator

while you're under the bonnet, remove the oil filler car and wipe it clean,

keep an eye on the look of this when your checking the coolant level for the next week or so,
do the same with the oil dipstick..
( all useful for helping rule out Head Gasket issues)

Hi thank you for the reply the coolant is pink and the oil doesn't seem to be going down but I will keep an eye on it also I think it's a leak in the radiator because it doesn't seem to loose coolant until it's up to temp!!!

Coolant temp warning when starting is a common error thrown up by an old battery. The Grande Punto is known for eating through batteries, I'd recommend getting yours checked.

Very good advice..
BUT that doesn't explain the need to top-up coolant

unless the car has work done before sale and has shifted air..??,

always worth running your finger around the hose joints on a COLD engine.. you'll soon FEEL any damp areas = leaks..,

Thank you I am going to have a good look tomorrow and see what I can find.

Chances are it's the metal pipe to the water pump that's corroded and needs replaced mine sprong a bad leak just a few days a go £30 fix that's if it's the same engine as mine like as I own the mk2
