On my way home from work this morning my t-jet has started making a strange noise that appears to be coming from the front offside somewhere, either the engine bay or suspension area.

It sounds like a soft rattling sound that gets quite loud at around 60mph.

It doesnt sound like anything metal hitting something but it does disappear when the accelerator is applied.

The noise came on quite suddenly on a fairly straight flat bit of road, although i have noticed a bit of clunking over bumps and rough surfaces recently which i assumed was suspension related but this sounds completely different.

Ive had had a look and nothing appears out of place or loose but wanted ideas of what to check next.

Ill be able to get the car jacked up later or tommorow but ive just come off nights so need some kip before i do anything else.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Either drop links a broken spring or completely f*cked top mounts?
That would be my first place to look mate.

Right, ive a good look and a listen when ive not been awake for 20hrs.

The noise sounds more like something loose that is flapping about and rattling against something else.

Its definately not metallic and is present at all speeds but obviously gets louder with speed.

It disappears when accellerating and almost bangs on easing off before rattling.

Ive had a good look underneath and had the front wheels off, the following look fine:

Springs, shocks, drop links, ball joints, brakes, CV joints, nothing appears to be loose in the engine bay and the undertray seems secure although i havent had it off.

I thought top mounts made more of a creaking sound when turning?

No promise it's this but I drove over a brick which bent one of the subframe braces and made a rattling noise as it hit against the exhaust under the car. Removed and noise has gone, just ordered Forge replacements :worship:

I get what you mean, the noise mine is making is quite similar actually.

I will get the undertray off and have a look. Im thinking it could perhaps be exhaust related as the bits i can see are very rusted, maybe a hanger or bracket has broken that i cant see

Well today the noise has completely disappeared??

Im stumped as to what was causing it
