Went out a long drive enjoying this fantastic weather... driving home and the car started to feel as though it started to lag a little while in gear (constant smooth acceleration and then without lifting my foot off the accelerator it felt as though I was coasting for a second or two) anyway, that went away and I turned into my street where I was in 3rd gear straight after the turn (as normal) and then it pulled back hard while in 3rd.

Never panicked and put it into 2nd to get more power... same thing happened, and again in 1st! Only way it moved forward without and resistance was coasting and then it came to an abrupt stop.

Killed it and then turned it over and it idled at around 300rpm (didn't sound good either) had to push it down to my house with the help of a neighbour.

Got it back safely and turned it over once again and it starts and runs fine now.... scared to drive it anywhere further than out my street without having to leave it overnight.

EML is on which I can't read the code for at home... Please can someone give me any advice in diagnostics or symptoms of a problem?

Want to take it to the garage but I've got no notion of only managing half of the journey...

Thinking maybe coil pack? Under load while driving up my road... hope to god it isn't the gearbox...

Does it struggle to pick up speed at times? Does it stick to a certain speed?

Nope it just didn't want to go anywhere while in a gear at that particular moment. It starts and moves fine now which is really strange. First and only time this has happened/any problems like this...

I had a problem with speed, found out it was the fuel injectors, so had to replace the correct one.

When was your car last services?

How did you know which one to replace? Had that in the back of my mind to be honest.

No idea. Got the car in October of last year and it had it's MOT a few days before I bought it... as for servicing, I have no clue, no service book or anything like that... although I did check the air filter on a separate problem and it looked near enough brand new.... oil filter looks much older though.... going to give it a good service in a few weeks when the money suits.

How many miles and what year is the car?

Had a MOT test done on the car and come back failed on emissions. So thought it was the catalytic convert so had that replaced by the engineer, when he took the old part off he said there's nothing wrong wrong with it, anyways it still struggled to pick up speed. Then the engine management light come on, had a diagnostic test and found out one of the fuel injectors was not opening correctly. I think there's 4 in total all colour coded. He told me which one and I got that replaced. So I spend near enough 200£ just for a stupid catalyst converter that I didn't even need.

Got the GP at 89K now done 93.5K so fair getting on for a 2006 car.

And funny you should say that, recently the car has been sounding a little 'beefier' than usual at the backend...

Any way to test fuel injectors and if so individually?

Maybe a minor service is due not too sure, I know that the car needs a full service every 12k miles, mine is due due so I have booked it in for next Saturday.

I really don't know how to check the fuel injectors to be honest, maybe you can youtube it or google it, best to take it to a garage see if they can check it out for you. They also told me to get a fuel injector cleaner, I think the brands name is redline or redex can't remember but that keeps it maintained, u should do this once a year at least

I'm thinking of getting a full service done... given the fact that I have no idea when it was last serviced.

Yeah I've used Redex in every full tank of petrol i've bought in the last 4-5 months, works wonders, improving performance and fuel economy! My injectors must of needed a major clear out as I noticed such a drastic difference as soon as i left the station...

Where are you from? I am
Getting a full service from Northampton for 118£ and that is really cheap compare to other garages out there.

Glasgow area about 15 miles or so...

That's a smashing price! Where abouts is that?

Sounds like it could be misfiring, checked everything, coil pack, HT leads and spark plugs by running the engine and removing HT leads from coil pack... everyone functioned as normal, dropping in pitch causing, more vibration due to less rpm. Definitely something to do with ignition system... even when it gets going, in 3rd gear or so it still won't produce any revs when it starts resisting and pulling back when in gear

Possibly a new head gasket needed?

Coolant not reaching correct part?

Time for a spark plug change I think! Ordered a new oil filter and left the air filter as I'm pretty confident that it looks fine. New breather hose also ordered as the hose in my GP is from a garden hose... yeah, you heard that right. Obviously someone before me couldn't be arsed paying a tenner for the new modified part and 5 minutes. Shocked really. Fingers crossed this will keep the car slightly happier but definitely something bigger at fault.

Also, think the oil sump gasket has gone... that's the bottom of my sump. Checked the cars MOT history to find an advisory for an oil leak...

New MAP Sensor installed... runs much more smoothly, can only tell about starting characteristics tomorrow morning when it's had time to do a cold start but things are looking up! New spark plugs, breather hose and a oil change with new filter should keep it in check! Fingers crossed that's the last of the engine problems!
