Hi,

New to the forums (Have a '07 1.4 T-Jet) and have done a bit of looking around to this issue, but am yet to see any concrete fix to the ASR/ABS/Hill Holder issue, the fault seems to have a different root for different people. It appears to happen to me under light braking.

Starter motor had to be replaced this week, so whilst it was in the garage I asked them to run a diagnostics check on the car, however it came back with no errors. Which is odd considering this fault happens nearly every time I go for a drive.

I see alot of people saying that its poor brake switch adjustment that can cause this error, and since it appears to arise when I apply the brakes lightly this makes sense to me. Is this an easy fix? Can the current one be adjusted or does it need to be replaced?

Cheers, and any help is appreciated

Will

Got the exact same problem mate.

I've replaced the brake light switch and that helped for a week but then back to the same problem.
I've just changed the brake pads today and that seems to be ok so far but I'm not convinced.
Also I need a new wheel bearing but I don't think it's that.
I'm running out of ideas if these new brakes haven't fixed it. Cleaned out the sensors as well today while I had the wheels off and the warnings haven't appeared since but I'm still worried about it lol

il let you know if I find anything else out mate but most people say it's either brake light switch or your battery's dying

Thats a bit of a ****, its a really frustrating issue :bang:. Hope it gets sorted for you

I had the same, turned out it was a 1mm break in one of the abs sensors, fixed it myself with a terminal block (y)

Thanks, will give that a go when I get the chance :)

Cheers mate. I did find this cable broken when I took the wheel off but I think that's just the brake pad sensor.

Recheck the switch on the brake pedal ,as it is on a ratchet, and may need resetting ..I had this issue when I changed the bulkhead plate ,and all it was is I had upset the switch

Could it still be that even if the brake lights are working and it's intermittent with the warning lights?

Gave my local Fiat garage a ring and asked them about this, see if they've seen it before. They suggested a possible software update, or the brake switch adjustment/change.

Does anyone know how to adjust the brake switch? Might be asking alot, but a short step by step guide, or a link to somewhere that has it would be fantastic. Had a look round and couldn't find any guides, will continue looking tomorrow though.

Cheers,
Will

Got the issue fixed!

As suspected it was a faulty brake light switch. Which is an absolute pain in the arse to change.

For anyone who doesn't know the brake switch is located above the brake pedal, and may look different depending on the year of your GP. Mine was Black and red, earlier ones (pre-07) could be white.

Its a simple plastic part that looks like it should be easy to take out, but it is not. I tried taking it out with a screwdriver as there are bits on the side that you should be able to apply pressure to, to remove the switch. This didn't work and I took a bit of plastic off the holder whilts getting the switch out.

What I can recommend is getting some mole grips and destroying that bastard switch in the holder, then the new one should be an easy fit.

Also, the new switch's plunger was too short, so I had to super glue a button to the top, which made it an exact fit. Bit of a bodge job, but I don't care, it works and I no longer have a large, irritating beep when braking lightly.

glad you sussed it.., :)

did you still have working brake lights when it was playing-up:confused:

as that could aid in diagnosis for others.,

where / what did you buy as a replacement..??

Brake lights were fine when I had the issue, no trouble from them.

Taking the brake switch out when the engine is running, the error plays up. Which when I saw this, I knew that the brake switch was the issue, backed up by it being changed for 3 days now and no error. It would usually occur just as I leave my drive.

Replacement part I got from Ebay, but like I said it can be different for different year of your GP, pre Aug 07 is a white circular-ish switch (I think) post Aug 07 is a black square one. You can also get one from Shop4Parts, a site I see get used alot on this forum, but I haven't personally used it yet.

This has saved me some hassle mate thanks!

I've tried everything but didn't think it was the switch due to my lights being fine. I've got a new switch in my boot so I'll give it a go tonight :D
