Hi guys, got my top mounts replaced yesterday but after getting the car back I noticed over bumps there was a rattling noise from the left handside. I took it back from the garage and he's told me I need a new shock absorber now !

Does this sound right or should I get a second opinion ?

second opinion i bet he has damaged the anti roll bar drop link or its badly worn its come apart / loose on removal .....

they can be a bugger to remove if they have been on a long time... bet its been rattled off with a windy gun which has damaged the bush at the top (which goes onto the strut)

When I took it back he had it up on the jack and tightened everything it's only now I've noticed the the 'cup' that the spring is sat on moves when I push the car up and down (if that makes any sense at all)

dont drive it...... probably rusted away then..... if the cup fails the spring drops

I'm supposed to be going to Scarborough Thursday, will it be okay to drive there and back ?

Just got a second opinion and been told its the anti roll bar now

As has been previously mentioned it will be the ARB drop link rattling ,what has probably happened is whoever did the strut bearing had issues undoing the droplink nut and has (being polite) damaged the ball joint. Not a big issue ..

Thanks mate, it's booked into another garage for Wednesday, luckily just in time before I go to the coast.

Replaced both drop links but still doing it
Told him to leave it for today and I'll take it back next week, it's a strange one !
