Good morning all,

I have a Grande Punto 2007 5 Door

The rear driver side window regulator cable snapped on me last night.

Two designated fiat maintenance garages quotes me €147 + vat + €50 labour to replace.

I have found the part on fleEbay for less then €100 including delivery.

Unfortunately a reliable cheap parts place on the northside of Dublin did not have this part and directed me to a Fiat dealership

I had a quick look at it last night while there was still a little light. I can see mounting bolts for the mechanism, but my main worry is the window.

Without looking at it in more detail, there seems to be a lot of metal in the way of the bar where the mechanism attaches to the window.

Any hints and tips would be grateful to get at this part or would you advise taking my time and put up with the skinned bloodied knuckles!

Also, if there are any other places to buy a cheaper part let me know

Many thanks

Bump - same happened to me tonight when a mate somehow thought it would keep winding even when it got to its limit - resulting in one nicely snapped cable upon inspection behind the door card :bang:

I took the mechanism off to inspect properly before discovering the snapped wire. As everything but the wire is perfect I'd like to replace only the wire, but is it even possible to do with the existing machanism and all? (which once removing any bit of frayed cable seems fine)

Any ideas much appreciated :)

An update, fitted the part and it works perfectly :D

2 screws and 3 bolts to get door card off, then 4 bolts (two for winder, two for rail) to get mechanism off. Plastic loop clip on window slides down and off. If you need any help doing it, I'd be more than happy to help (y)

Just remember to reattach the door cable to the handle when putting the door card back on. Guess, after getting the door perfect, which bright spark here didn't? :bang:

just done this repair for my next door neighbour, it is really easy, but i found it was easier once fitted to wind the mechanism down to its lowest point, then attach the plastic pin through the hole in the glass, as there isnt much room or flexibility with the glass in the up position to get the pin located safely, mechanism part was £33.90 posted off ebay.....

Got around to doing this myself a couple of monts back. Actually repaired it following another article on this site, but wore down again as the repair work lasted a month.

Once I purchased the part and know the ins and outs, it was replaced in 10 minutes! Beat that!!!

You will probably be looking at €100 total for replacement and shipping. Even the breaker yards were pricey

Cheers

Larry
