Well I hope you are sitting comortably as this is a bit of a long one
I have owned my 06 plate GP sporting from new and apart from the usual issues its been super untill.....
About 3 months ago I was travelling back from Bristol and at the bottom of telegraph hill (Exeter) gave it some gas but instead of flying up as usual the engine spluttered almost died, the warning light came on and it went into limp mode
I stopped in the lay by turned the engine off, it started fine the warning light stayed on but it ran good (no more limp mode) I took it to the local independant who said that there were two error codes one for the alternator and one for the turbo but they couldnt find anything wrong, reset it and concluded that it had had a 'moment' fair enough

Until the same thing happened yesterday on a different hill,
Now I have driven up and down many hills since the fisrt time with no probs and have covered a couple of thousand happy miles

My worry is that just before the first time, some bozo pulled out in front of me and did a fair bit of damage to the drivers wing, light, wheel etc, the insurance company sorted the repar but could this have rattled any sensors/wiring

Its been regularly serviced has done 70k had no alterations to the engine, had a new alternator about three years ago oh and the egr was cleaned recently

Sorry for the long post but any help/advice would be greatfuly recieved before I take it back to the menders again

I dought that the accident would have had anything to do with it. Its more than likely a faulty sensor but its hard to say without more info. Do you have the error code? Some of the guys on here are fiat techs so given a code will be able to help you pin it down.

Thanks for your reply,
I didn't get the codes from last time but it is due its service in early july so i intend to leave it until then as it is running ok at the moment (except for the light) and will get the codes then

I wouldn't wait until July if the engine light is on.
Even a fault as simple as an oxygen sensor having failed could mean the car is using failsafe values and running rich, which will gradually kill your cat if you continue to run the car for a long period.
You could pick up an EOBD code reader for less than £30 and find out what the fault codes actually are.

If you book it in to be looked at once you'll probably pay at least £50.
For the sake of a £30 purchase you could read the codes yourself and wouldn't have to pay the next time it happens...

Last time it cost me £25 to get it looked at and reset and you never know they might mend it but thanks for the advice and I will defo ask for any codes
