Hello Forum,

New member here with a couple questions before a possible purchase. I'm looking at possibly buying a 2009 Fiat Grande Punto Sport version, 1.4 T-Jet, 17" wheels etc etc. What are some issues I should look for when buying a Grande Punto? and is the 1.2 engine really weak? There are some good deals out there right now for 2010/2011 1.2's but if the engine isn't that great I'd rather pass. I'm not dead set on this particular car (the 1.4 Sport) and can wait if something better comes along but my top choice in a car is a Grande Punto.

I currently live in Prague, CZ but grew up in Canada. Buying a used car here is a pain in the ass. So many scams. Here is the car in question...

There is a BIG difference between the 1.2 and the T-jet in both driving and specs, i dont see the logic in choosing between them
There is a sticky in the grande punto problem which outlines the possible faults of the GP. Nothing major for the t-jet mainly just niggling problems

Multiair engine is a good engine to have....

with TJet they are nice but when you start modifying them there are a lot of things that can go wrong or say you need to upgrade....

so its really down to you what you are looking for, normal run around car or something puncy.

if run around i would totally avoid any turbo charged cars.

obviously ppl here arent gonna accept that and i have owned a few turbo charged cars and yes they were powerful but it needed a lot to look after.

you can refer to the skicky notes but also look in the forum for current topics and the main one you get is all related to a car which has got turbo in it.

all the best anyway, whichever you get.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I'm aware about the problems with turbo's. The reason why I mentioned the 1.2 was because for the same price they are selling here brand new GP 1.2's as for that 2009 T-Jet I listed which has 55,000km on it already. I hope that makes sense.

Anyways, I'll check out that sticky thanks

I test drove the T-Jet and it was great, I haven't gone and looked at any 1.2's but I would never buy a car without giving it a test run and check over it as much as I can first. I was just looking for feedback regarding the smaller engine thats all, same my self time test driving one.

The funny thing is here in Prague the car salesman has to go with you on your test drive. I asked them why and he said if they didn't they'd never see again half the cars cause they'd get stolen. In Canada, they hand you the keys and you're off on your own (after they photocopy your drivers licence of course) and if the vehicle you're looking at has no fuel in it, they give you $5 or $10 cash to refill it and tell you to take your time test driving it out.

I'd say it depends; when I go looking at second hand cars by myself the guy always comes with me. If i'm with my dad and its a brand new car they normally just give us the keys and say see you in an hour.

Obviously they judge you when you walk in.

It's like that here too buddy, never get left with something that isn't your own, otherwise it ends up in Khazakstan or Albania.

Took a second hand evo out in supervised glad I did as I discovered a fault and was able to check it out with my old man without a monkey wanting to know why I was opening the bonnet and hammering the brakes as it was a bleeding wreck that had been in a prang that grabbed under braking problem with gear box et all

I have a 1.4 Grande Punto which i just bought last week. Having previously had a 1.8 MGF with VVC engine I am finding the 1.4 more sluggish than I am used to. I personally wouldn't want to drop to a 1.2 or it might be quicker to walk lol
