Hi guys
the bearings in my gearbox are dying and rather than get the box rebuilt I was wondering if there are any other gearboxes that would fit the.1.4 16v gp engine? a new replacement is far too expensive especially if its only going to last 50k like this one! If there arent any alternatives I will just get the current one rebuilt but any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

All 6 speed gearboxes fitted to all N/A FIRE FIAT cars post 1999 have the same ratios and will fit. So you are talking GP, Mk2 Punto Sporting, 2007 Bravo 1.4 16v, Stilo 1.2 and 1.4 16v, Panda 100HP, 500 1.4 16v, Idea 1.4 16v and more.

just get it rebuilt mate. My 57 plate gp 1.4 16v is on its 2nd box at only 47k miles! Apparently the box fitted to the 1.4 16v is a shocker for breaking/blowing up!!!!

Thanks for the help! Still struggling to find a good condition replacement gearbox so im going to get mine rebuilt. Ill let you know how much once its done.

Be interesting this as from what i understand 6 speed g/boxes need around a grands worth of special tools as bearings etc are preloaded etc, would need a specialist company to do.
Although i may be wrong, i am sure i will be informed otherwise if i am;)

No you're right. Needs to be a specialist. I had a broken 6 speed on my mk2b 1.4 Sporting and was looking into getting it rebuilt nearly everyone I rang wouldn't touch it. Managed to find a brand new one from a Grande Punto in the end (thanks to dave).

There is an ebay trader that re-cons them I believe (It was about £395 with trade in) and will do you a trade in for your broken box. Just search for fiat 6 speed gearbox or fiat gearbox and you should find him.

I would say you are right.

My 1.9 Mjet gearbox has just been destroyed, 4 of the bearings are on there last legs, and 2 of them have turned to dust :(

My grandad is currently rebuilding it for me, all the bearings can be located for around £100ish but are very difficult to get hold of, unless you want to get ripped of by fiat.

He managed to get the tools needed from specialists, but unfortunatly they are all to small. He is currently making the tools today to finish the rebuild.

What symptoms did you get to tell you the box was on it's way out?

Well my car now makes a whining noise from the.gearbox everywhere I go.
Does anyone know if a mk3 punto 1.4 16v six speed box will fit my car?

Im not sure if that gearbox will fit yours, someone else should be able to helpyou on that,

But i stongly advise you stop driving your car, untill its fixed. It will lead to more than a broken gearbox with continued use

what mileage did it happen mate ?

Are the gearboxes in the T-Jet the same as those in the 1.4 16v? Take away the turbo and your left with a 1.4 16v theoretically.

My mate text me this morning saying he could only get 3rd Gear, so i told him to get it straight to Fiat dealers.

It's an 09 T jet.

Yes it's the same fitting. Just different ratio's etc to match the torque of the turbo.

T-Jets have completely different 5 speed, larger C510 gearboxes. They also have even length driveshafts and an intermediate shaft attached to the engine, unlike the uneven length shafts and C514 gearbox that N/A cars have.

Hello there, im new to this site and have no idea how to post my own thread. Im agter gearbox code for 58 plate punto t-jet 5 speed? Will a gearbox mount frome a 1.2/1.4 fit. Please help
