Hi,
I started up my Fiat Grande Punto (2008) yesterday, and it starts up and runs fine - but will not engage Automatic mode. It drives fine in the "manual" mode, but the dualogic automatic mode won't engage (if that's the correct term for it). I am pretty poor at changing gears myself and am more comfortable driving auto, has anyone else had this problem before, is there a quick fix or do I have to take it in to the garage? I was planning to begin a drive interstate this afternoon :S

Also, what is that whirring noise when you open the drivers seat door? I noticed the door didn't make a noise? And now it won't engage auto? Are the problems related?

hi any solution to this? encounter the problem too! for one whole day, downshift or upshift have to do manually. what went wrong? the pump is working.

now it back to normal again. auto working,
is this another sign of auto failure in the future is imminent?

I have just had the same problem today with it not selecting auto. Car starts and runs fine in manual. Did anyone get a souloution to this problem?

The fact that you can change gear manual means that there is unlikely to be anything wrong with the Dualogic hyraulics, clutch or actuators. Sounds more likely to be an electro / electronics problem. You need to take it to a Fiat agents enable the car software to be interigated for faults.

Same problem here too.
Brake lights aren't on.
Won't select auto, but manual is fine.
Fiat reckon it needs a new clutch and fork!
I'm waiting now to have words with the mechanic because that sounds like rubbish to me and I'm not paying £900 to find out that it doesn't fix the problem. At the moment it looks like I'm paying £90 just to find out that the dealer workshop is crap.

Just got back from the dealers.
First, and no surprise, they have a retard behind the desk who should NEVER be allowed to talk to customers.
I told him I didn't understand why the faults I reported could indicate a new clutch was needed and he tried to tell me that there is a manual gearbox and an automatic gearbox on there, so the clutch needs changing. I said, even if that were true, it works in manual, not in automatic. He got all flustered so I asked to speak to a mechanic.
The supervisor came out and told me that the diagnostics told him that there's a mechanical fault in the clutch and as a result the car's computer disables auto mode. His experience is that it is most likely to need a clutch or release fork, but he won't know until he opens it up. He also said, he'd reset the error message and taken the car for a drive and it seems fine now and that he'll happily reset it again as many times as we like if we'd rather just keep using it for now.
So, basically, I've saved nearly £1k, got my car back and it all seems fine now. How long it will last could be anyone's guess...

Have a quick check that your brake lights arnt constantly on when the engine is running (y)

Sorry to have to bring out an old thread but I have encountered this problem with my 2009 Panda. Suddenly, unable to engage auto but going manual if fine. I only need to upshift but and the gears will downshift automatically when i slow down or stop. The brake lights are constantly on when engine is running. What is the problem and how do i solve this.

Been enjoying my Panda but this is giving me a headache. The Fiat agents here in Singapore are really hopeless and tend to overcharge everything. I send my Panda to a workshop specializing in Fiat, Alfa Romeo. I'll probably will send the car over but will appreciate any feed back on this problem.

Appreciate any help..
Thank you.
Zul

Hi. Just got my Panda back. Replace the gear selector sensors (2 pcs) and all's well again. Replacement parts plus labour and diagnostic reset set me back SGD450.00. There's not many Pandas on Singapore roads so getting secondhand parts is not an option. Anyway this should last me till i scrap my ride in 2019.

Hi,

Could someone help me please. Thanks.

Hi there,

once again: the Fiat Dualogic "automatic" gearbox is just an electro/hydraulic actuator that engage/disengage clutch and gears in your behalf OR in response to his controler. The gearbox and clutch are simply standard (manual) ones !

If the controler sees an unexpected situation, i.e brakes (lights) on, it will NOT tell the robot to do anything but YOU can still make him do what you want.

FES or MES should tell you what's wrong in the readings...

BRs, Bernie
