Lol whatever one is the one that fails in a lot of GPs?

In the early days there were loads of issues with racks and PAS columns.

So which one are you asking data for? Surely you should know what point you're making? Your thread asks about racks, but first post asks about columns?

If the PAS fails is it the column that needs to be replaced as well? Are the rack and PAS issues related?

The question is quite simply 'How many people still have the original steering components?'

An interesting poll, given the amount of 'Failed steering 'x'' threads, would you not agree?

Yes, 70, 200 miles. I think it's starting to go though, grinding and power steering failure recently, both seems to have fixed themsevles though.

The column is what's replaced to cure the buzzing/ over light steering in one direction fault. Other PAS problems can be traced to battery/alternator low voltage issues.

The rack is not power-assisted, it is basically like a normal non-PAS rack. Common issues at the time were premature knocking from the track rods, and every one I can remember was changed within the first 2 years of warranty.

TBH, I don't know of any manufacturers using electrically assisted PAS who has systems that are 100% reliable. What I will say is that over the years, Fiat and the third parties it uses who build and supply the columns have steadily improved reliability. One only has to look at the huge number of mk2 Punto PAS columns (the first Fiat with it) replaced over its lifespan compared to the Stilo, then the GP, then the Bravo, each having less issues. ;)
