Technical Grande Punto power steering light

Okay guy's what do you make of this, My 1.2 active on a 57 plate won't start just completed dead all the electrics come on the battery is fully charge but nothing when you turn the key anyway had to get somewere today and had no option but to push start it, any way my power steering light was on but steering worked fine, then the light went out and then on the way back after push starting it again how embarrasing that is lol, the power steering light was on again but i also notice my speedo stoped working as well then again after 5 minutes or so the power steering light went out and the speedo started working again. I have check the to main earthing points from the battery one on the frame and the other on the gearbox and both apear okay, am i right this must be an electrical fault.

thanks in advance guy's

Have you given the main earth on gearbox a good tug they have glued on heat shrink wire can rot looks ok till ya pull it out of heat shrink then its all green.
Have you tried a good jump lead from battery to earth or use a meter from battery to engine and check earth circuit

Hi Guy's

Just to give you an update I decided over weekend to have a play around in the engine bay fuse box and swapped a few few relays round one at a time and klow and behold it started first time so it was purley the relay that had gone £15.86 off Fiat or £2.95 off ebay, so T you were right.

But I do have to say the guy at fiat threw me off the scent when i rang last week asking what relay is the starter relay he asked my reg then went away to speak to one of the mechanics and came back and said there was a direct feed to the starter and alternator and that there was no relay involved in the starting circuit and would probabley be the ignition switch costing around £110 fitted. When infact I have found out through playing myself it does have a relay in the circuit. Naughty Naughty Fiat dealer man.

Cheers Guy's

Hello, I know your last post was sometime ago and may not remember but is there by any chance you know which relay you replaced? I have now got the same issue on my wife's GP.

Thanks,
Scott
