Technical Gear unavailable - Check Transmission

I sent the letter to Ozsmokey too back in July '14, check how he went. :)

Happy to send you the same letter too if you PM me your email address.

How did you this ? I am also having the same issue.
Bought a Fiat Grande Punto 2008. Sometimes it won't just engage into 1st / Reverse and also sometimes when putting reverse can hear the gearbox making an horrible noise, not engaging the gear and then deciding to go into Neutral.

This is so annoying and feel like the gearbox is going to wreck one of these days.

you've waited 17 months before posting again.., with issues.

what work have you had done in the meantime..??

have forwarded the letter onto a handful more people.
hope it helped!

our since fixed has been running fine with zero issues now.

Hi Dualogic owners
Similar problem in Australia with Fiat 500 with no remedy in site. Dealer considering problem over a few weeks now since towed in!
I would appreciate ACCC letter to get Fiat assistance. email [email protected]

just read all these posts.... I have a 2009 Ducato motorhome, had the actuator replaced a couple of weeks ago, NO GEARS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM warning, now its happening again !!!!! jeez.... 1035$ + labour 1400 all up, and still the problem exists...... doesn't sound good from what others have written. its only done 90,000kms !!

ANY UPDATES ?????

ACCC Letter would be good to have i it seems:( > [email protected].... thank Q

Have now found that removing Fuse for Actuator with ignition on, it resets it, and gears become available, still intermittent .... nothing particular that I've noticed as yet causes it. still chasing solution, at least have remedy, cant go far without gears :(

Not quite the same, but today, l stopped at traffic lights, then noticed that l was still in fifth gear auto, tried to go up or down, change from automatic to manual, nothing, it wouldnt move, nor move out of fifth gear. Stopped car and restarted it, fine, no issues during the remsining trip. Was ths a one off, or a warning that something major is going wrong? Car is a Fiat 500 Auto and its four years old. Up to nw, been great, no issues. All that came up on the dash was see handbook!!
Thanks for anyone who may be able to comment, and with luck put my mine at rest by saying its just a blip!!

Hi,:)
the gearchanging function relies on 2 things;

a good solid ELECTRICAL supply - from the cars battery / charging circuit

a supply of fluid / oil to move the clutch and gear selectors

the fluid has only a small reservoir - so can dribble away enough to be an issue - without a puddle on the driveway:eek:

Electrics,
the batteries don't last forever.. and at 4 years old it's certainly not unexpected to have a few little glitches ( power drops)

hopefully it'll be fine,
but if it becomes a more persistent issue....,
I would start with the battery / alternator ( the cheapest / simplest parts to work with ) and go from there,

My fiat punto 09 semi automatic duallogic is stuck in 1st gear. Ive had a mechanic come to do a diagnostic and said the gearbox pump gone and would need to replace the selespeed unit. Just wondering how much would one of these would cost.

Anyway, seems like one need to be carefull !

Shop4Parts would charge 500 pounds for a (complete ?) unit, but you'd easily find much cheaper replacement MOTORS ONLY in Italy.
I personnaly would open it and verify/replace the brushes, that's what from those little motors die ...

Have a look here : http://caserta.bakeca.it/dettaglio/ricambi-accessori/motorino-comando-cambio-grande-sh2y111805364

If you can get a suitable piece of wood to touch the pump (although anything solid and close to it is usually good enough, the gearbox mount on a Panda often works well enough) you could try the tap test...

Open bonnet. Make sure driver's door is shut.

Using a piece of wood (dowel or piece of broom handle is good) and a small hammer/mallet/similar, give the motor a sharp tap. Not hard, just a tap.

Immediately open the driver's door.

Motor may start up. If it does the brushes are knackered or the dust from them is causing the motor to stick.

If not, retry a few times varying where you tap, closing and opening the driver's door to trigger the motor.

If still nothing, check for wiring/relay issues.

Not conclusive if motor doesn't start up, but a good indicator if it does.

Note: Just a tap means just that.... no liability accepted for heavy handed mistakes.

The pump can be replaced without the replacement of the entire Selespeed unit. If they're insisting on replacing the whole unit then go elsewhere.

The pump in itself almost never needs replacement, but its electric motor does !

That's just easy saving around 400€ !! You can even go further and replace the brushes ± 10€ or clean their tracks if they're not too worn ( 0€ ).
You'll need the parts, a bit of skill, basic tools and a bench vice, that's all it'll take...

I agree with Bernie on this one. You can easily repair the motor and very cheap to do so. Just take it to starter motor/electrical motor repair specialist and you'll be up and running in a few hours.

I would like to add this though, I would recommend you asking the repair person to apply an electrically insulating layer to the inside of the motor housing where the brush heads are. Mine created an internal short where the brush connectors came loose and touched the outer wall. I now have a thin plastic sheet running all the way around the inside of the housing. No more pump issues.

Hiya Folk, Just popping this on here, make what you will of it. I have a 2009 Qubo, had the same warning & gear selection problems come up. My Non Fiat, Fiat specialist, is really really good, the problem was simply the brake light switch, the internals of the switch were ***'d, a common problem apparently, then all kind of false info is fed into the electronic brains, with all kind of false readings/trails. Brake light switch was changed, all in only about £25 or so, and all the problems went away, this was 9/10 month ago, and they have never come back. Not trying to teach folk to suck eggs, and no offence meant...........Should add, a few of us on the Qubo/Fiorino section have had same problems..........all simply solved.
Cheers Qube O.

Must agree with you Qube O !

We're here almost always hammering the same nail: bad grounding ...
Have a look at the diagram and imagine what could happen in case of diyng ground point like G001, G002 or G003; the "brain" of the dualogic would get crazy and just give up (selespeed unavailable, see manual ...). A sensor getting bad like your "int. de freio" (brake switch) would of course bring ther same result.

Very good diagnostic from your independant mechanics !!
