Hi Guys,

First post for me here. I have just returned from FIAT Dealer here in Malta. Basically I was having 2 problems.

Problem 1

"Check Number Plate Lights" Warning. This was solved by replacing 2 bulbs
(FIAT Charged me the ridiculous price of €60. Where bulbs cost €1.21)

Problem 2

"Airbag Failure". This has been there for quite a long time. When I was skimming through this forum I found a very intriguing thing regarding my problem. I was reading the Known Faults Sticky and came accross this.

Fault - Horn - requires a firm press to operate.
Cure - lubrication of horn contacts DANGER airbag - dealer only!
Status - Rarely reported.

I am having this exact problem. Sometimes the horn required a very VERY firm press for it to operate. Can it be that this fault is affecting the
"Airbag Failure" thing?

FIAT said that it was the Stiring Column that had to be replaced. However they did not show me the Receipt produced by the Diagnostic tool. The Stiring Column is €260.00...

Can anybody help perhaps? Any insights? Thanks

€60 for fitting 2 bulbs is crazy - its a 5 minute easy to do job!

Airbag failure could be a number of things, as easy as a loose connection right up to the steering column, airbag itself of the wheel. No doubt someone more technically minded will come on in a while and can give more details than I can on this.

Welcome to FiatForum.com :)

Thanks :) Yeah I know. I specifically told them to call me if there was need of work. No one called just handed me the bill when I went to pick it up.

After reading all the posts about Airbag Failure the Horn problem caught my attention I must say. I think it might be related to the Airbag Failure problem. I am not that much thrilled of spending €260 =\

Lots of Grande Punto's had the Horn button issue without any Airbag problem.

In fact unlike Stilo's, (3 door especially) Grande Punto's rarely have Airbag problems.

That is why I am a bit skeptic about the Steering Column problem. I think its something smaller than €260!

For instance... A couple of weeks ago I had the "Have Power Stiring Checked" Warning. I took it for a Diagnostic at a friend's of mine and it turns out it was the Speedo Sensor. Nothing to do with the Power Stiring itself.

I was thinking to hear a bit what you guys think before I commit myself into buying a new part.

No not exactly. At FIAT they said the Stiring Column Switch something... How can I check the Version?

The garage said it was. I am not 100% sure though. I don't trust them one bit! I guess I will have to run a Diagrnostic at another mechanic
