Any thoughts? My mate's got one on his FTO.. the T-Jet turbo will be slightly smaller
.. but besides that whats to stop me being god damned awesome and having a screamer on a GP?

discuss..

screamer pipes are pretty cool, though you have to be careful with screamer pipes, you connect it to the wastegate and you are meant to reconnect it to the exhaust system before the cat. thats the legal way. however you can ( which is illegal and im guessing the more popular and common option) leave off the screamer pipe and not reconnect it this means its kind of acting as another exhaust and vents out gases into the atmosphere, this creates the loud noise you hear. its illegal apparantly, and from what iv heard about them, very annoying after a while as its like travelling with a harrier engine in your bonnet :p
however, its not been done before, and could be cool :p

If you do it, drop a video in a post, want to hear what it sounds like (y)

I like your enthusiasm :)

Well as far as I'm aware, I'd be able to change the sound how I see fit, (louder, quieter) by altering the pipe bore, but I'd have to disagree with it getting annoying after a while as it would only come open in full boost

As far as I know it wouldn't affect an MOT as the emissions aren't tested at WOT so should be gravy - and as long as you promised never to go overboosting your little GP.. not an ounce would set foot in the atmosphere.. that is until you went and used it 'off-road' in which case it'd be perfectly legal.

Would sound quite nicer then a fart can on the back end, I'm sure you'll agree Gentlemen.

I promise if I do I will upload a youtube vid and show you all, but was really just contemplating it at the moment, not sure what the effect would be on a small(ish) turbine.

Incase anybody's wondering, it's what the Ferrari F40 has that makes it go..

WWAA - vaaaaaaarrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIII

.. sorry lads I get somewhat excited talking about screamer pipes (y)

Cool cant wait, should be good if you do, it may catch on as a forum mod for all turbo'd GP's (y)

From what I understand as a "screamer pipe"....U mean that u want to run on an external wastegate, it that right??

Haven't done much research but yes I was going to do that, don't T-Jets have external wastegates

Why would I need a different manifold mate?

Hehe...No mate...None of the modern standard cars is coming with external wastegate...For obvious reasons...Even sporty cars like impezas , evos ,skylines etc are running on internal wastegates...You need to swap your manifold to one that has an extra port for the external wastegate...Its an expensive job...For a tjet the only pro would be that screaming sound...Recon me, it would be better to go for a pair of camshafts like c&b road medium..You will get a really sporty note from the engine and performance at the same time along better torque and hence Bhp on higher revs...along with a vl36 turbo unit , it would definitely be spot on ;) ;)

Internal wastegate (pretty much all factory-fitted turbo's due to cost/size)-

And external wastegate, usually aftermarket-

Screamer pipes do sound the dogs danglies, but they do get tiresome after a while. A friend had this setup-

...and although it was only driven in anger for a few thousand miles and a few top speed events, in general everyday driving it got on his nerves. You say it'll only open at full boost, but remember how quickly the T-jet comes on boost as standard- that wastegate will be opening at 2.5-3000 rpm to limit the boost to the factory levels. ;)

i only said about the annoying because i knew someone who had a skyline and fitted one, and his sounded balistic, it was cool, but he said as he was driving it every day it annoyed him.
lol a fart can :p, some can sound quite nice, but so many people have them, i can see that it would sound different, and would turn heads lol.
im not sure though if it affects performance in any way, if itsacting as an exhaust kind of, wouldnt it mean more pressure can ecape at once, meaning more of a boost?

Indeed an external wastegate allows more control and precise adjustment of the turbo pressure..

... when the physical size of the internal wastegate is not large enough to 'bleed' enough air away from the turbine to prevent overboosting. ;)

Unless we're talking BIG power and boost, a T-jet is not going to benefit from an external wastegate.

Didn't understand my post did you.

I understood the "you sound like a chav" undertones. ;)

Just giving an example of a screamer pipe 'sound'. It's clear many people on here get idea's for mods but don't understand the concept or work involved. Christ, how many "can I fit this dumpvalve to my mjet/ this turbo to my 1.2 8v/ etc" posts do we have regularily?
