Hi all,

Just need some advice if possible please?

While putting the swirl gasket on my EGR I caught the spanner on the Glow Plug Control Unit (a few sparks) and then nothing.

Immediately, turned on the engine, initial start up check ok, then the dreaded 'Check Glow Plugs' message came up. Had a look at the Glow Plug fuse in the battery fuse box and it was blown...no surprise.

Couple of questions:

1) I am right in my assumption (if it starts) that it's fine to drive as the GPs are only used at start up?

2) Is the Glow Plug fuse easy to fit and are they readily available from Fiat dealers?

I may have shorted the controller and/or glow plugs but the fuse is the best place to start.

Thanks for any advice.

Please say you spotted the bit in the guide about DISCONNECT BATTERY!

Edit - My bad it doesnt say that, but surely you'd do that just because you were disconnecting an electronic component.

I'd finished, put the batt back on, and noticed I'd left a spanner in there...took it out and spark.

Unlucky? Clumsy? You decide.

Hi guys, anyone help on these q's??

I had that message check glowplugs, took it to dealer and they replaced all glow plugs under warranty.

Yeah accidents happen :( bet u'll reember next time tho.

If you accidentaly forget to say what you did this is an option, but at worst the plugs are 20-25£ each.

Is the fuse not just a normal mini blade one?

I've done the same thing as Monkeydt2003, but what I would like to know is which fuse is it? Don't say look in your manual because I have lost it... well no I haven't I have just miss placed it  If anybody can help me that would be great, another question... how the hell do you change the glow plugs on the GPS, as the caps have connections so it ain't as easy just to whack a socket piece on there.. thanks in advance! (y)

well the e-learn manual now only appears to show the s2 fuse box (perhapse they had enough on the S1's letting water in and redesigned it  )

you can get a dedicated Glowplug socket with an open side so you can thread the wire through the side...

its simple to check a entire fuse box in a matter of minutes

get one of these 12v testers cost about £3

then clip the croc clip to earth or the negative post of the battery

you can use a multimeter but why over complicate something ;)

now with the screw driver end

touch the probe to each side of the fuse if you look closely there is 2 cut outs on top of the fuse one on top of each "leg" to get a probe on

do each side of the fuse your blown one will only light the screwdriver on one side (its far faster than looking through the manual (y)

I actually took all the blade fuses out and checked them all, all were ok, the big 40 amp buggers I never checked... its either one of these or the square look thingy's or are they totally different things all together?

with my method no need to take fuses out ;)

the square things are relays :)

it probably is the big 40amp jobbies or the large flat ones on top of the battery post under the little cap will dig my handbook out later if i get chance

added a warning to the top of your guide Aircooledbug (y)
