I'll be hitting the showrooms as soon as humanly possible to get a punto evo (after test drive ofc)

The one ill be looking at will be the 105 GP(£14,095.00) & the 105 Eleganza (£14,095.00)

Just wondering what price people think ill be able knock off & what i should expect to get it for?

I've got some ideas in mind, but i dont know if im being stupid or not as its my first "new" car, ill be going with my dad whos bought new cars before but id just let a heads up as to what to expect so i dont feel a complete newbie :p

I have heard so many people say I got a good discount on my new car. Great if you are paying cash, but if you are financing it with a loan or HP what matters more is how much you pay in total. So consider the APR and all the hidden costs like arrangement and completion fees, GAP insurance etc etc.

I am going to a couple of Seat dealers tomorrow with my sister to help her haggle over a new Ibiza.......and I cant wait. I love car salesmen who think THEY are doing ME a favour :D. I am going to squeeze them till their pips squeak, hammer them down to the deck over price and generaly take them for everything I can......Bring it on (y)

try fiatsupasaver.com and you'll see what sort of price the dealer can get them in at or were to negoiate to... but as sledge has said it all depends on your circumstances of financing your purchase - fiatsupasaver also do trades in.. so i would say to call them aswell! remember to visit a few garages and if you cant get the price down too much angle for extra's - exteneded warrenty, mats, first service free and look at the value there, etc, etc

get some pictures up when you make your purchase (y)

Punto Evo looks different in alot of the pictures ive seen, i've seen some ugly ones & some gorgeous ones.. im sure it'll be different again once i get to see it irl & test it etc.

I'll be paying in cash

I'll deffo be watching fiatsupasaver for there price, im just wondering if they'll put it on the website "at launch" or if they'll wait for the initial boom to blow over before doing it. I didnt know fiatsupasaver did trade ins though, that's pretty cool! especially as they apparently are a cover page for pewsham garages 20mins away from me so i could go in there & drop a few questions etc.

Also my current car is 10yrs old, scrappage scheme would give me £2000 off (if still able to get it, ends in feb but im hoping if i can get them to sign a contract in jan it'll work out.), but i've noticed the dealers seem to lose interest once they've agreed to the £2000... where as if people didnt have a scrappage car they'll knock it down by more.

ive got a dozen people wanting my car for £500 anyway, so i wont be hard pressed to sell it should i decide not to mention it.

And with the amount of time ive been stalking this forum & eyeing up grandes / bravos / evos id feel like a right cock if i didnt spam the forum with photos! :)

a few points;

1) if buiying from dealer negotiate a free service plan in the deal, this will far outweigh any savings on initial cost discount.

2) fiatsupasaver...prob cheaper but add 3 services at around £700-800 to total cost.

3) forget mats, they worth pennies, get a full tank of fuel (to the brim) and buy set mats off ebay etc

4) make sure you get copy of PDI sheet from dealer signed by service manager so if any problems its his arse on the line! Also talk to the ytech who carried out the PDI...is he at least a level 1 tech? If I was to spend £14 I would want to talk to the guy who roadtested it before I went out on the public highway!

5) dont expect much if any discount even for cash (finance deal is worth more to garage) as there is little profit on a new car at this price range.

Sounds like that'd all be worth trying.... just hope the salesman doesn't key my car as i leave! lol

I'd expect alot off given that the same trim with much the same features in a Grande Punto costs about 2k less (based on list price). The evo is way too expensive IMO.

True, though im interested in it because of the multiair engine... seems to be getting very good reviews & very cheap to run compared to a grande, of course alot of it will be marketing misrep i.e "£35 tax" "0-62 in 8.3seconds" "70+mpg" .... without actually saying the £35 tax is on the 1.3 Active / the 1.4 Sporting / 70+ mpg on the diesel.

But we shall see, just hope some brochures / cars appear soon!

think i read somewhere the petrols doing 62mpg & the diesels around the 70 region

Which.co.uk said:
However, efficiency gains from the new engine technology mean the Punto Evo returns as much as 68.9mpg while emitting as little as 107g/km CO2 - all without any kind of dedicated eco variant. And the turbo Multiair is actually greener than the naturally aspirated version - so you needn’t feel guilty about wanting to go fast.

If you are paying cash make a day of it and visit 3 or 4 dealers, ask for their best price and play them off against each other.....cheapest (or best) deal/package gets the gig. Dont be scared to tell the salesman what you are doing, it keeps them on their toes. Despite the smiles, handshakes and matey chat they are not your friend and all you are to him is next months mortage payment. ALWAYS tell them you are shopping round and that you intend to visit the next nearest dealer later that day to see what they can offer you. Be tough, make them work and DONT make friends with him, you are doing them a favour and its not the other way round.

A good trick is to get him to write his best price/offer on his card and then go and show it to the next dealer and say "can you do any better"..... (y)

Dont, DONT ever accept the offer of a coffee, you will feel obliged to sit at the desk while you drink it and in the meantime you will have to listen to his spiel.

.....and in the end buy the car just so you can go home!

The other line is 'come to my lair...errrr I mean my desk while I work out some figures'

Remember as Sledge said, if you walk away (even to think about it) your scum and wasting the salesmans time even though he was your friend 2 mins ago!

My brother was in car sales for 11 years, i know what kinda games they play, though out of all the things ive heard him say over the years i dont think ive heard him complain about people knocking him down in price, he was always just happy to sell a car to meet his sales goal for the month

He did say many times his main trick was "I'll just go talk to the manager & see what i can do!" and he'd go in the back room n have a quick cup of tea.

Its true too, i remember i once went to visit him & a customer turned up so i had to make myself scarce he did the manager trick & came back n palmed me a chocolate penguin (y)

We'll deffo be making a day of it, theres about 3 fiat garages within 20-30mins of mine, then i believe weston super mud has one, and im sure ill find a couple more + phone calls cant hurt... certainly plan to ambush all of them and get the prices together

Since this'll probably be my car for a good 5 years or more it has to be the right price & have everything i want, and im certainly taking note of what people are saying here, a couple of things have come up we didnt think about

well good luck & have a fun day(y)

one thing is the punto evo is a vast improvement over the GP (trust me),and as for looks well its your money so your choice. The main 'bugbear' for most is the ugly front grill but how many times have GP owners lost their grille (s) or complain they dont fit correctly. A natural improvement would be to redesign which Fiat have done. I also think the front gives better radiator/air condensor protection.

If you get one let us know what you think...you could be the first on FF;)

I agree the looks are abit muddled now, front grill isnt an issue for me though but the chrome strip on the front is, cant say as i like chrome but eh, if people can paint there entire grills on there GP im sure if its that much of an issue i can paint a chrome strip :p

Hopefully ill be ordering it for early march (for a 10 plate) so dont know if ill be the first but ill do my bit :D

lol @ 14k for a punto

i wouldnt pay anymore than 10 for one unless it was an abarth

I completely agree with you, its painful to see people are wasting their savings on a new punto at such a a high cost. Be aware that it will most probably depreciate a lot. There are so many better cars out there for around 14 k.

Sorry don't mean to ruin your experience on buying a new car or anything, if you like it fair enough but all im saying is that the prices fiat are charging for the new punto are breaking into the price range of bigger hatchbacks i.e. the focus, astra and even bravo..

Think I've worked out the new front end...

It's an attempt to make the MITO look better.

And it hasn't worked. The EVO, while not as clean up front as the GP, is much better looking than the MITO.

Bulgaria is a terrible place.....saying that i haven't actually been there but seen the pictures:rolleyes:

C'mon guys, wait until you have driven the car before you cast judgement , its just spoiling Blank2k2's experience. Remembert we went through all this before with the 500 and look how many they sold;)
