Just having a look at Fiat official site and it appears the 1.3 t-jet is now the base engine on GP. Can anyone confirm this and is there a reason no new 1.2's, emissions etc ?

the 1.2 8v is the crappest thing ever. Seriously. I had one as a courtesy car and no way would i ever recommend one!

For me it's a fantastic car...with my age and record i can't get insured on anything else...i can barely get insured on this so there is no way i could have a car this nice looking and nice to drive (part from the power...lack of).

the interior is tacky compared to the sporting, the steering wheel, hand brake and gear knob is so plastic and horrid it can give you blisters! The seats let you roll out of the car when you turn corners, are you joking Mark?

your being very harsh when base models of most cars in this class are the same. a sporting is a couple of thousand pound more ffs!

People are exagerating this too much. It's fine.

I had to commute 60 miles every day for 2 weeks in mine, and the only downside was the seating position not being too good. Fuel economy was excellent and it was suprising good at 80mph+

Got out of a 1.9 eleganza and straight back into my 1.2 after a test drive and it didnt feel "slow".

If you want slow, try driving the 1.0 12v engine in the New Corsa. 0-60 in 16.9 seconds. If you want slower still, try a Panda 4x4.

The 1.2 8v and 1.4 8v basically the same engine anyway, but confusion comes when you have the option of the 1.4 16v AND 1.4 8v active sport. Someone on this site has already been sold an 8v when they were told it was a 16.

I did 50 miles a day for over a year in my 1.2. Was fine, although lack of air con in the summer was rubbish (but that's the active not cos of the 1.2).

I didn't think the 1.4 8v would be much different and on paper it isn't. After driving it for a month though there is a noticeable difference. Much smoother at the 50-70mph range and doesn't feel like its being ragged all the time.
1.2s perfectly fine for town driving and can cope with the odd motorway trip as well - although not a refined as the bigger engines granted.

The purpose of the 1.2 was to make us 1.4 owners feel superior. Now who are we going to look down on?!? :(

my first car was a 998cc seat arosa S (S meant slow i think?) that did 0-60 in 15seconds and it felt alot quicker than the 1.2! never goin back to a small engine again. :p
