General Grande punto sporting M-jet 1.9 mpg economy

Ive overdosed mine with redex and checked my tyre pressures and I seem to be able to get around 40 - 45 mpg now.

Im doing St. Helens ---- > Cardiff and back next weekend. its ~400 miles and I normally do it on a tank Im aiming for 50mpg this weekend

After moving house, my commute changed and my economy fell to around 35, which involves a short 3 miles trip to work, in stop start traffic, and loads of lights and speed bumps. I have now changed my route to include long strethces of 40-60. Its increased MPG longer journey though.

My MPG is almost as p...y as yours. We both live in South Lanarkshire. Is there a connection other than the well known fact about our crap roads?

I'm kinda sitting on the same side a Ffoxy here... I'm based in Lanarkshire as well and my long term average even with my 'keen' driving style is still above 43mpg.

On a run to the in-laws (80-mile round trip), with the cruise 75 I always see 50mpg+...

I'd book a service, mate.

Ive had my car a year and a half and at 1st i was only getting an average of 35mpg. But i think thats becuase i was driving it like a petrol at 1st. The GPS diesel lump doesnt need to be worked to keep up with the traffic so you can change gear early and keep the fuel usage down. on a daily 7 mile run to work i get 44mpg on average (dropping to 33mpg when having a little fun on the twisty stuff - i live in the country).. on a recent 360 mile run to and from london i averaged 54mpg doing about 75 - 80mph on the motorway. The worst i averaged over a full tank was 33mpg but that was me driving like a N*B and generally racing my mate in his Fiesta ST who slowed me down while he was only averaging 24mpg....

This seems to be the answer anytime the query comes up... keep the revs low and enjoy the torque...

Anything above 3,000rpm used to make my ears want to bleed.

Keep the kettle boiling, I drive my car between 1,500 Rpm and 2,500 Rpm, I dont need to run outside those rev ranges. 70Mph = 2,000 Rpm in 6th, just use your ears and feel the car, it should be eager to pick up not slow, so if it feels slow drop a gear and utilise the torque up to 2,500Rpm then change up...

Really its Simplez... (y)

300 mile run down to Reading yesterday, various speeds, pretty quick on the home run averaged 53.4Mpg, I used about 5.5 gallons gallons, re-filled with £35. Still happy here. :D

being a driving instructor,I obviously do a lot of stop/start driving,I get about 38 ish MPG round town, however,On a recent run,I did Manchester to Romford,Romford to Bristol and Bristol to Manchester on one tank,I didn't travel at busy times and had the cruise control set to about 64MPH(boring I know but I wanted to see what MPG I could get),the tank was filled right up to the brim on starting so thats 45 litres plus whats in the pipe,I did 587 miles without filling up and that impressed me,at one point on the M4 my trip comp told me I was getting 63.5MPG,if someone is prepared to drive at a reasonable speed, great MPG is possible,if the car is driven faster the MPG drops,I wish I got this all the time.

What was the difference on that run between actual and what the trip computer reported?

When I averaged 55.4mpg on a trip down to Hampshire recently, the actual mpg was 50.7 calculated. Still got there and back on one tankful though - 420 miles round trip :)

Pound for buck you will not get a more economical fast car than the m-jet especially if remaped any hot hatch will give ya less than 20mpg if driven hard the m-jet will stasy at 40 ish mpg so go figure

My in-car computer is 2-3 mpg enthusiastic TBH but I acknowledge that in my tank-tank calcs. For the cost of the car and the performance potential I am one happy bunny

I get quite good mpg according to the trip
Work commute: 15miles each way = 45mpg Average over 12 hours
Aldershot to Home (80miles, motorway)- 61mpg @ 60mph ... apparently
