Hi,

I have a Grande Punto Sporting 1.9 M-Jet which will be 2 years old in March. Just recently I have been getting a problem with the temperature gauge. After driving 20 miles + the temperature gauge will start rising from the normal mid way point up as far as hot in which the warning light comes on and you get a beep and warning message to say the fluid temperature is too high. At this point I experience a lack of performance especially if I need to accelerate at all.

The temperature gauge rises the more you put your foot down and once you ease off the power/stop accelerating the gauge will eventually come back down and sit around the half way mark as normal.

I have had the car into two different Fiat garages. The first time they said they did a flash update to the ECU and had resolved the issue. The car was not overheating, the fluid level was fine and the fan working as normal. It wasn't until I set out on a 150 mile trip to see my family for Christmas that I realised the problem was not resolved. I stopped by another Fiat garage on route home for Christmas to get them to verify the car was safe to drive and definitely not overheating. They confirmed the car was not overheating and advised to get the first garage to try the flash update again as it sometimes doesn't work first time! They said their computer did not show any errors from the ECU and it wasn't letting them perform the update.

I drove the car the rest of the way and opened the bonnet when I arrived - you could feel the cool air coming from the fan.

Has anyone had the same or similar symptoms to me with their Grande Punto or other Fiat and if so what was the problem?

I have the car booked into the original garage to look at again on Monday but I am concerned that I will end up being told it is fixed again and not finding out for sure until I do another long journey.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
