hi guys

I am very close to buying one but I am a bit worried how it will affect my insurance. I am just about to have my one year NC so was thinking with the money I save I could stick with the same amount and get an inducation kit. Any way what I am really asking is did it affect you guys insurance by much?

Cheers (y)

if you declare it yes it will affect your insurance although i would have thought by not much.

the thing you have to decide is whether you think it is necessary to declare what at the end of the day is an air filter.

Rofl get a grip of course it must be declared.

All mods must be declared else the car is NOT insured.

all mods must declaired "by law" else it voids your insurence. as for not increasing you insurence not by much.... that all depends on your age my friend... if your 17 it will sky rocket if your 25 i shouldnt imagion it going up by that much.

please read my above post.

i know it is illegal to not declare any mods my point is a lot of people dont declare them as they cant afford to in which case they shouldnt mod at all.

lol id HAPPILY pay 200 quid for a remap and induction kit! im 22 and every time i check insurence companys for these i get silly quotations!!!! which reminds me if anyone has a recormendation for cheap modified car insurence let me know!... i checked with elephant.co.uk and the said to me "we dont insure your car if you remap it more than 25% of the cars standard bhp" and "that will be another £155 for the remaining duration of your polocy" ....

so i said how longs left on my polocy.

"2 months...."

155 quid for 2 months !!! no thx.... lol... however as a standard GP (well its now on eibachs) its the cheapist i could get....

as for rolf - i agree dont mod your car if you cant afford to insure it. if someone ran into me with no insurence - well id hate to think what id do/want to do to them... :)

direct line, they usless if you're under 25 though

ah yes and so i have heard. - will have to wait a couple more years for that :)

however i have heard as a younger driver on an older persons insurence with direct line that is pritty cheap too? ... well an old friend of mine was with them when we where 17 and it was cheaper and a lad i know who is 19 is on his parents polocy through direct line and thats fairly cheap too.... however i odviously want my own polocy as its my car :p

Try the fiatforum insurance through chris knott. pretty competative, like you I'm 22 0ncb (being a named driver on company policy's till this year). All mods declared on a 1.4 16v Sporting (IG 7) for £770ish Fully Comp if I remember right.

Get lots of quotes first then ring them up and they should beat it!.

Don't I F**king well know it....they tried to cancel my insurance because I fitted a head unit and an alarm in the end they gave me cover on it for free because I argued it wasn't a performance enhancing mod. Yes thats right I declared a stereo as a mod, sounds silly but if it gets nicked i'm insured for an aftermarket replacement not the crappy normal one.

Also do people who have defected from fiat still qualify for fiatforum insurance? I want someone who will allow mods next year.

I'm 25 in January:woot:

Only had my liscence for 6 months though:cry:

No mods for me yet, just save up and collect stuff lol

Thats annoying...despite you only having been driving for 8 months you'll be able to stay legal with direct line...

I on the other hand have had my license since October 2002 yet will have to wait two years before they will insure me...
