bit off topic but my chrome surround came, looks sweet, thanks for the inspiration lol. or should i thank audi? haha.
yeah its just a pain in the arse but still - gotta use it to go on site in a few mins so depending on if the problem is still there depends if Norris Brothers will be receiving a visit from me or not

Glad to hear it! i'm seeing quite a few chrome grilles popping up around the place now! I was worried everyone was gonna hate it at first but obviously not lol

I would have thought the gearing on the mjet would be different to the 1.4.

ive also found on many cars when underload gears changes around 2nd/3rd gear crunch or pop out
yeah that sounds about right - last night I tried everything to get reverse and eventually found it but 6th was a no go at all! I'll try again this morning though because I have to reverse out my drive so should be interesting!!!

Yeah that's a good point because of the revs - hmm...I was being stupid there lol. I was thinking they're both 6 speed and it would be cheaper for fiat to use the same box - plus - at 125mph the 1.4 16v is doing about 5k so the gearbox should see it through to about 150mph if it ever had the power (which is about what the mjet gearbox gets the car to when its mapped to something ridiculous apparently)

Not sure though!!!!

The 6 speed box in the GP, is the vauxhall gearbox used in a variety of cars including the Astra VXR, and even the Lotus Europa so I would imagine it should be a pretty solid box. If you dont know who covered the first 14 000 miles in your car previously, your not going to know how it was driven. If it was someone who liked to pile on the revs before setting off like an OAP can be seen to be doing thats going to cause premature wear to the clutch, like wise when sitting at a junction with clutch sat at biting point for while.
Sorry mate, I meant i brought the car with 14 miles on it not 14k...so I know how every mile bar those 14 have been driven and that's why i'm surprised...

but yeah, that's a good point - i'd ruled out the clutch because I could still get into all the other gears with no trouble and there wasn't a grinding noise other than with 6th and reverse but tbh i'm not sure...are clutches covered aswell? cos if they're not then i might invest in a better one...

ye just noticed you had it from new, so fair enough! take it back to fiat, it wil be covered, and just give them an evil look and demand a bravo sport t-jet as a courtesy car haha.

and when you make those changes, ile be sure to be having a gander and taking inspiration haha. my next mission is to save money, and take apart my lights to spray the inside instead of paying for the new darkened ones! im determined to not spend £300 on lights!!!

It won't just be an evil look - with how crap and rude the service guy is it's gonna be a full on fist fight I fear!! I was thinking about that - someone else on here got given a brerra as a courtesy car so I might give that a try!!! But yeah, i'm not getting landed with something that won't hack the miles I have to do - Don't wanna break a courtesy car after all

haha - they should look really mean but i've gotta save up first but anything I can do that other people like is brilliant as far as i'm concerned!!

Bet that's gonna be abit of a bitch to do!! good luck with it though, would love to see how it comes out!

Re: Is My Gearbox Dead?

ye defo go for top courtesy car! the service at my dealer is quite good to be fair to them, i took it in to get my glovebox re-aligned other day and they did it there and then and were going a bit OTT with customer service to be honest! i was shocked he didnt get me a cushion to sit on and my own personal lounge haha.

ye it probably will be a bitch, but id rather spend a few hours labour and a few quid on spray paint than £300 on new lights! need to get my calipers painted too me thinks!

-Reverse is very hard to engage but does still work.

This is similar to just one of the miriad of faults I have had.

I started to experence selection difficulties around 20k, I took it back and my ever helpful! dealer rectified the problem under warranty without question. They told me they had replaced both selector cables and adjusted the selector mechanism. From past experience I tend to take what they tell me with a generous pinch of salt, particularly as the cables didnt look brand new to me..... but whatever they did they sorted out the problem at no cost and minimum inconvenence to me so I cant complain.

I believe all GPs have cable selected g/boxes, you can check via Eper.

Re: Is My Gearbox Dead?

Well - rang up the local Norris's (big mistake!)

Can't fit it in until tuesday 'cos that's the first avaliable courtesy car they have...1.4 dynamic sport to thrash around. I demanded an alfa because i needed one sooner but they said they had no links with any other garages as they're independant so i'm just gonna goto alfa myself and arrange an extended test drive lol. Not leaving fiat my car until they're actually gonna work on it!!

I was wondering if it could be the synchro-mesh aswell maybe? hmmm! Just about to go and remove all the GSR and stuff for warrenty purposes lol. Think i managed to force it into 6th a few mins ago whilst stationary but it won't do it whilst on the move. Only a matter of time before it does it again anyway i'd imagine!!

Re: Is My Gearbox Dead?

hahaha do it, goin in a nice suit and act like ur a spoilt rich brat whos going to buyy one, and you want to test drive one for a few days, demand a top of the range one or you will take your business elsewhere. might do it myself just for fun. ha.

and also if and when you get it to fiat, they should provide an alternative that suits yours, i wouldnt settle for less then what mine is, get them to give you a tjet or a bravo!
