Unhappy RIP My Grande Punto - Total Wreck Out

Was traveling in stop start slow / fast heavy traffic today about 2pm, had followed a black megane at a safe distance with plenty of space between me and her.

After following the megane for about 4 miles, we came to a junction after a 60mph road and traveling at speeds of 50-55mph, slowed to 30-35mph.

Clocked a minor accident on the left hand side, looked back and BANG! Airbag in my face, force of airbag flung my arm out the window and burnt it to **** and windscreen went.

Car in front of her had stopped suddenly then she did and i'd hit her stationary with her handbreak on at 35mph.

Door wouldn't open, smoke everywhere my heart was racing, I climbed out window and saw HALF the front of my car missing and bits EVERYWHERE!

I thought i'd killed someone, ran upto car in front she got out ok thank GOD and was like I saw you get distracted and knew you where going to hit me in the like two seconds.

Police, deatils exchanged, car towed away (Probably wrecked) am OK she's OK.

PAY ABSOLUTE 100% ATTENTION WHEN DRIVING IS MY ADVICE!

I have been driving for THREE years, renwed my insurence the other night without any accidents am a good driver. It only took ONE second of distraction.

Did you ride up underneath the Megane as it looks unscathed?!

Damn, sorry to hear that. That's just what happenned to me a few years ago in my Mk2 Punto, similar speed & everything, except i hit a Scenic. You can see where the extra NCAP star went on the GP, it's faired better than my MK2 did.

Tho i think i might buy a Megane looking at the (lack of) damage on that!

Car front ends collapse much easier than rear ends for the ncap tests.

Soo sorry to hear about this mate, but as said above at least everyone is ok.

Don't mean to cause offence and really sorry if I've misread the above, but if she had stopped and applied her handbrake she couldn't have stopped that suddenly?

Again, if I've misread your OP then I'm sorry.

No I think she braked and used the handbrake to brake even harder.

But even so, goes to show just how a minor concentration lapse can cause so much damage. This will make me drive more alert when in traffic.

So sorry to hear that, if it were me I would be so gutted mate.

Re: RIP My Grande Punto - Total Wreck Out

well as you said lesson learnt & all that its of no help to you but i get accused sometimes when i,m driving of not recognizing people waving to me ect, its just that i,m tooo busy concentrating on the road ahead, as you've learnt recently this is a good habit to adopt
