Whats the 1.4 16v like?

I had been looking at buying a Bravo Multijet for a while and had one on a 48hr test drive a couple of weeks ago. However, I am putting this on hold given the way the economy is taking a nosedive while interest rates and energy costs go the other way. I still need to replace the current car so I am thinking of going the petrol GP route for a couple of years. What is the 1.4 16v like? I know it won’t have quite the go of my current MG ZS120, but my priority is low running costs at the moment. However, the car still needs to have 5 doors and be comfortable for long journeys with three adults and luggage.

Re: Whats the 1.4 16v like?

if you looking for low running cost, cheap tax and cheap insurance i would defiently say the 1.3 Multijet is the cheapest to run out of the bunch of GP's.

Then if a 1.3 isn't enough grrrrrrrunt... i would suggest the 1.9mjet, you can get it in a 5door eleganza spec.

I average around 40/42mpg round town and 55+ on longer journey... plus its only insurance group 6 oh and tax is still cheap only £135/140 a year bout the same as the 1.4!

But if your not a diesel person.... then i'd say the 1.4 t-jet as the GP is a heavy car mate

test drive a few and see how they feel and meet you needs?

Try for anything 07+ as most of the niggles were ironed out on the later models

He wants it to be economic, Why would you go for a T-jet when average mpg is like 30 maximum.

My friends 1.4 16V Sporting 95 BHP is fairly quick and looks amazing, I know your not looking at a Sporting but he averages 40 mpg!

Re: Whats the 1.4 16v like?

Its a good engine tbh, smooth and refined, my computer says 42.3mpg at the moment, but in reality in normal/town use I get about 39mpg tank to tank, it needs the occasional pasting but it likes it and revs right to the red line properly.

It will potter around at 30mph in 6th gear and pulls very well, has a fair little tug of torque too at lower speeds.

Its definately one of the best small petrol engines ive driven and idles silently when you're in traffic but as always, test drive one and see.

I didnt buy mine to get ultimate performance as I have other cars to use but it does well for what it is and is cheap to run.

Re: Whats the 1.4 16v like?

If your looking for economy, depending on your annual mileage of course, then i think you should consider the Mjet. I have just been looking at a bank statement, i filled up on the 16th may, and my next fill-up after that was on the 27th may, 11 days between full tanks. On average i fill up about every 8 days.

If you don't do the mileage to justify having a diesel, then i would defintely go for the 1.4 16V, it's not exactly going to be a slow car, but your main reason for wanting to change is to save, and you would be saving all-round, big time imo.

Good luck
