How much?

Hi all,
this afternoon i will hopefully be securing a deal on an mJet sporting, but i am unsure where i should start the 'haggling' process.
I have £1100 equity in my car at the moment with £2700 worth of finance to settle (will be settled by the dealer).
The sticker price on the car is £9990. It is a 1.9mjet sporting in red and has 1223 miles on it. I will finance the remainder of the purchase. In peoples experience what sort of price could i expect to achieve? I hope that i can get it down to £9000, the total to finance will then be £7900.
Any insight would obviously be a great advantage to me, thanks very much

I think you should go for £9000, and as it is near month end the dealers may be in need of a few more sales to reach their targets for the month.Don't be aftraid to walk away from the deal cause my money is on the dealer to ring you even before you get home, good luck!!

P.S You will love the car, I do and I've had mine from new in 2006.

Why buy secondhand? For that sort of money you can buy brand new, see broadspeed.com and fiatsupasaver.com. When I bought my GP two years ago I got my local dealer to reduce their price as close as possible to the price I had from broadspeed, it's worth trying that. Good luck whatever you do!

Re: How much?

thanks for the replies. No luck unfortunately, low part ex price offered, would only drop price to 9800. I also found out that the cars do not come with tax or fuel so the price of 9800 included both of these. BUT then the finance quotes were not great. Summary: I walked away and will try again next week!

Given the prices offered by Broadspeed and others the drop in depreciation is not an issue and for very little more than a secondhand car the buyer gets a new car with complete warranty.

Got to be good in anybodies book?

Good man.

I've been playing a nice game of haggle tennis with my local dealer recently. I managed to get the price for a brand new 1.9 MJet down to £10,200, but like you, the finance options that go hand in hand with the price aren't good - meaning I'd be paying £800 more over 3 years than with a standard loan.

The part exchange price was ridiculous also, so I immediately said forget about that as I'll sell it private.

Now it's just a case of demanding they sell it at that price for cash and I'll happily go down and drop the cash on his desk

If that doesn't work, then I'll simply order through Broadspeed.com for £9885 - although it will be a 12 week wait from the factory...

Re: How much?

If the outstanding finance on your car is HP, have you paid enough just to hand it back to the finance company and then go car hunting with no trade-in?

I also agree with what others have said re price of new or pre-registered. To give you an idea, I managed to get a 1.4 Sporting in black, for £8500 three weeks old with delivery mileage on the clock and list is just under £12k

Re: How much?

nope not on HP. Wanted to own the car at the end with no final balloon payment. Will be making the trip to Guildford this weekend to see what is there - a nice chemical grey GPS sporting MJet.
Even Renault wouldn't take my car back - not even 2 years old but slightly above average miles (31000)
