Cars booked in on Saturday for its 2nd Service Was told by the Chap at StoneAcre that it only needs the low mileage service (it had the Full first service incl plugs last year) cars got about 12.5K on it at the moment.

Is going to have the brake fluid done As I know this should be chanced Bi-Annually as DOT is Hydrophillic,

All done for £150..

Whats the score with the Engine flush and Fuel treatments? they all seem to offer i seem to remember reading somewhere about modern engines not liking it as it flushes deposits from where they are sitting harmlessly and can cause more problems and that Synthetic oils dont chemically change and clog up much as compared to the older mineral oils?? The hand book advises against using Fuel additives, Is this the Stealer just trying to drum up unnecessary/pointless work or is it worth doing??

its only a 1.2 petrol for the record

Thanks

thanks for that sledge it just backs up what i had thought and read elsewhere,

I only do low mileage anyway and don't get close to the service intervals otherwise I'd change the oil every 6 months i run a tank of Super unleaded through every few months to attempt to keep the injectors clean, its amazing what they try and offer you as "extras" Could just imagine some people falling for the whole party trick.....

**Thread stolen** My car's 6months old and I've done just under 13,000. WOuld you recommend an oil change/any other things?

13,000? Kms,, surley not miles,, holy moly, 2000 miles a month, thats major,
getting some good use,, erm,, maybe a oil change is advisable,

Have you checked the oil level at all? i am at 500 miles now and wonder if i should check incase any oil burn.

Had you done less than 6,000 miles before the first service?

A low mileage service can only officially be done on the 1st/3rd/5th/etc year as stated in the service book (something along the lines of "vehicle must be serviced in accordance with the full service schedule every 2 years"), otherwise a petrol owner would never get their air filter changed and diesel owners wouldn't get their fuel filter changed. Stoneacre should know this.

Regarding fuel/oil treatments- many Dealer managers/directors push these as extra revenue generators, but us Tech's think they're all pointless as long as the car's serviced regularily. If you don't want them put in, you don't have to have them- just say so when you drop it off for the work.

If you're going to keep the car a long time, it's worth considering a flush at every oil change, unless you're using synthetic oil, which suffers less, or changing the oil every 6000 miles.

My old beast has racked up 117,000 miles. The cams and bore look like new but there are burnt on oil deposits (black varnish) inside the motor. Probably not doing any harm.. but it'd be better if it wasn't there.

i was told that all the filters needed doing on the second service hence why its gonna cost nearly £300 for a second service for me. surely all fiat dealers should follow the same proceedures?

I pre paid £250 for both 1st and 2nd service so lets hope they follow the guide lines and change all thats ment to and not try to save money

It is quite funny to hear all these posibility's from the young men on this forum.

The simple fact is that any brand new engine, be it an alloy or cast-iron block will have metal swarf deposited into the sump from the factory machining - which will eventually destroy the Crankshaft bearings. That is why you should drain & change the engine oil at or before 3000 miles....:bang:

It doesn't take a Rocket Scientist - or does it?

Lies this is done on a test bed in an engine plant and prerun for an equivilant of 3000miles then oil drained and replaced with the proper oil. Well at least at fiat it is.

But you know better huh mike? Being an ex pilot?.
