You got the magic 6th gear? I think town driving is worse anyway. All the stop starting, pulling out quickly etc. Should take it on like a 10mile road wityhout turning of. But i aint an expert, i'm a newbie

Re: really bad mpg on my 1.4 active sport

Hmmmmm 24mpg is low. My combined mpg since i got my car 16k miles ago i have averaged 36mpg in my 1.2 dynamic.

Only way i can see you getting such a low mpg is if you really do rag the hell out of it...personally i would get it checked out.

I do a lot of town work but I'm getting about 34mpg. Much better on a longer journey. I've got just over 8k on the clock.

Sorry, but this doesn't really help does it

Re: really bad mpg on my 1.4 active sport

Nah i don't have clue, this area ain't my strong point i'm afraid. Only thing i can say is if its a problem that has been getting persistantly worse go to your dealer and get it checked.

Re: really bad mpg on my 1.4 active sport

I tend to get 37mpg in mine half m/way, half urban still pants compared to my old car, I was getting 51mpg in that. But hey thats the price you pay for a bigger engine..

Similar for me too, though for me it might be because I've started to use the boot as storage and so the car's becoming heavier..

Re: really bad mpg on my 1.4 active sport

sounds a daft option but find a quiet piece of road, stop then set off and red line in almost every gear. you will probably find that due to all the town driving the injectoers etc are all blocked and just need a good blast.
it'll kick a load of sh*t out of the exhaust but dont worry, it'll soon clear up.
worth a try, failing that if it is about due a service get it booked in and just mention the high fuel consumption

Re: really bad mpg on my 1.4 active sport

Same car, now at 4000 miles on the odo. Regular 41-45 with mainly town driving and the occasional motorway stint. Always try to drive far enough to get engine warmed up.
Really heavy foot results in about 32-35
When I put my mac and flat hat on and light up my pipe I can get 50mpg, but other kind motorists keep shaking their fists at me or make other strange signs and gestures.
Probably best stickin to the 9/10ths rule and keeping the pedal down.
