I bought a grande in april this year so its a 07 plate, its a 1.3 diesel, i've been offered some 17"wheels from my mom, and i thought it would be better to ring fiat and ask if they woujld be okay on my car...... they said no, it would blow my gearbox up....... but when you look in the fiat after care book they only sell 17"wheels for diesels. any ideas.

p.s. the wheels shown on the picture are the wheels i want. lol i only put them on my car to se if they would fit

this has been a bit of a big topic in the grande section, mosey on over there and serch m8 (y)

the wheels are 205/40/17". and they fit my car perfect. just i dont want to loose my warrnty with fiat
they said that the box will blow with the strain the wheels will give them

Providing the overall diameter of the wheel+tyre is no different to the original then there is no extra strain on the gear box. Ride might be a little harsher but with more feel for the road. Acceleration and braking should be the same.

Thats my car? hopefully i have done it right lol. but the wheels in the picture are the ones i want lol. they are just on because i was trying to see if they fitted. at the moment i have 15|active sport wheels on. and i only got them cos they was for sale at 80quid. with brand new original tyres

As long as you get the correct sized wheels, i cant see 17" being a problem on the Grande Punto.

Although speak to fiat and maybe get something in writing to say that they will voer it should anything happen to do with your waranty (and then you have a comeback) :p

thanks for that mate. erm after picking it up 3 days later the boot started to leak, then they fixed it, 2 weeks later the rear heated screen wouldnt work, that took them 7-8 week to fix, then the boot started to leak agen another 3-4 times, which resulted in a new boot lid or something, then the n/s front shocker SNAPPED :( the the electric window on the near side stopped working, central locking stopped working, it failed to start one morning, its had 3 sets of pads and discs due to disc warping, and now it needs a clutch due to it juddering in 1st and 2nd gear :( lol
