Angry Grande Punto Diesel 1.3 [75bhp] Mpg

Have Had A Deisel 75bhp 1.3 For 6Months Now And 6.000 Miles And Its Returning Only 55-58mpg Under All Driving Conditions!
Dosent Matter What You Try It Still Does The Same!
Did A 1200 mile Trip to scotland And Drove At A Steady 65mph And GUESS WHAT!!! It Turned In Exactly The Same Again.
Book Figures of 80mpg Are Never Going to Happen!
Pity Car Is Excellent No turbo Lag As with the 90bhp.

Although i would have thought you would have got a better mpg than that you will never get the book figures. They are conducted in laboratory conditions (no wind resistance, weather, traffic etc) and controlled by computers. I get around 52-53 in my M-Jet Sporting at 65-70mph so you should be getting more than that. Out of interest what rpm does your car need to cruise at 65mph?

Re: Grande Punto Diesel 1.3 [75bhp] Mpg

Your lucky! I never see above 50mpg! Though I tend to average only 40-45mpg!!!

EDIT:
Most of this is caused by the stupid gear box ratios! I cant cruise at 30 in 5th so I have to sit at higher revs (bout 2000) in 4th and at 60/70 (a lot of my driving) from memory its around 3000rpm

Its only Just Above 2000 rpm Dealer Reckons Deisels Take longer to fully run in and mpg Should improve Im Not Convinced!
The Same dealer was Telling me when Showing me car controls Where to top up power steering fluid! its electric Power steering!

Well mines on nearly 14k now and the fuel consumption has been pretty much the same as when i had it (approx 6800 miles). Your best bet would be to find someone with the same car to compare mpg figures. I'm not sure who on here has the same model.

When i have my foot down on the loud pedal i get 35-40mpg. When cruising on the motorway i get around 50mpg. If your getting 40 when cruising something is wrong!

Would not be my car if there was something working properly. Sorry T, won't start moaning. I'll get it checked out when I put my car in for 18K service and warranty repairs. May be off the road for quite some time. Think I have stated before that my ancient Peugeot 306 gets 50 MPH and it is getting thrashed down motorway runs. Must admit I do like to push it a bit on the motorway, the GPS just loves to cruise at 3 figure speeds. Rev counter sits at 3K when doing exctly 100 MPH. One if the things I like about the engine is how unstressed it gets when being pushed. Anyway, before the speed police come aolng and give me a hard time, I must state that I don't advocate breaking the speed limits, they are there for a reason. I actually think 30 is too fast for built up areas where there are likely to be kids and elderly people around. 20 is plenty fast enough. However, there are many stretches of modern motorway where 70 is patently a crazy limit. Three lanes of straight road and great visibilty. Going to stop now because this is only my personal opinion and I need to respect that others will have differing views. Also when on a forum like this it is likely that someone will have personal experience of bad driving, so going to shut up now about speed limits.
