Nope, aslong as ABS light comes on when you switch on ignition then off within 5-7 seconds (while it carries out its self checks) ABS is fine.

Thats just the sound and feel of abs kicking in, it hasn't damaged your car.

Re: ABS.....(Stupid Bastards)

as the others have said it among anything else proves the ABS is doing its job It uses wheel sensors to pick up the speed each wheel is moving and applies the brakes to the point that the wheels lock then Pulses many times a second (the noise and feel you get through the peddle) Then the EBD also works out which wheels have the most grip and applies more power to those brakes till the car starts to slew then backs off on those then puts more force to the other side to keep the car straight.

If its your first car with ABS/EBD take it to a quiet industrial estate in the wet and get used to its characteristics practice a few emergency stops You will also find that in ice and snow you will feel it a lot more if you want to stop in a straight line don't fight the wheel and the car will stop in as good a straight line It also allows you to steer round an obstruction with the brake peddle pushed into the floor.. if you need to do an emergancy stop forget what ever you was told about breaking to the point of locking then backing off then reapplying the brakes just hold it down pray and let the computer sort it out

Re: ABS.....(Stupid Bastards)

Even better as it's nice and icy at the moment go down an unsalted backstreet and plant the brake you will be amazed at how the abs can stop you on roads you can't even walk on

If you do the advance driving stuff in some cases they tell you the quickest way to stop is hit the ABS leave the clutch alone and move the wheel from side to side quickly to maximise the friction from the front tyres. But remembering to do this for real when your life is flashing before your eyes and you've just reached your first fumbling party grope takes some practice
