Has anyone else had a problem with the recent wet weather relating to the doors open warning??

As i set off from work tonight got about 100 yards and the Door open light came on (i had put my work jacket in the boot as i came out of work so thaught i cant have shut it properly.. so found a safe(ish) place to stop and envoked the local disco in the back window , and checked and all was closed, As i came home it flickered on and off more off than on as the car warmed up (knew it wasnt the door contacts as the interior light didn't come on) and by the time i got home it had gone off but came on and stayed on once i'd been in the boot again,

After reading something one here in the past about a dodgy boot latch i did a bit of investigating and warmed it with a hair drier and that solved it so i took the boot liner out and removed the latch unit and have flooded it with dewetting fluid dried that out and greased it with some special spray grease designed for electrical contactors (or something like that) and have put it back together and it works :D

There was no water in the boot skin i half expected to find a swimming pool i even climbed into the boot and lowered the boot and no water appeared so all i can assume is that it was condensation or water entered the mechanism whilst i was sheltering under the boot lid removing my wet work gear as it was lashing it down at the time. I take it the Microswitche are prone to corrosion once water gets in T?? Have they uprated the boot mechanism with a better quality Microswitch or is it a matter of have a new boot mechanism fitted then wait another 14 months for it to go again because if thats the case are they a standard size microswitch? (then again i doubt you'll go to those extreams at work and just fint a new mechanism).. if so i'll get a decent IP rated one from RS and fit it
;)

I still do have the same problem. Took it do the dealers', they (alegedly) fixed it. Yup it worked fine for a week, and now it appears again.

Do you, by any chance, have any pics on how did you do it? I found no obvious srcews or locks that hold boot liner, and i am afraid i might do the same i did with fiesta i owned earlier - breake the liner?

Uhmm.... You WERE talking about the liner on the boot lid, weren't you? Not the liner IN the boot, right?

Thx.

yep no problem no photos but can describe how to pull your boot lid to bits :D
(
yes it is the boot lid not the boot liner..

open the boot look in the recess for the boot close handle, there is a black self tapping screw.

remove

next get your fingers under one corner and pull it hard (its held on by about 10 plastic pegs)

once removed you can see the lock unit its held in place by 2x 10mm headed (M6 Immsmc) bolts

once removed you need to remove the multiplug (contains contacts for boot open warning, boot light and unlock solinide (spl)

i flooded mine with a de watering fluid and temporally cured it as T says above you need to find the cause or you'll suffer again..

the 3 most possible places water is getting in is around the rear wiper arm grommet, around the high level brake light and the cable grommet on the left hand side of the boot lid.. so climb in the boot and get a friend with a hosepipe to give the areas i listed above a good drenching (one at a time) and see if you can see where the water is coming from...

Hope that helps..

@Andy Monty: thanx, mate. Will try, and if i do make it well, there'll be some pics there.

The thing is driving me mad. I took my car to the dealers and it still is the same, so i decided to give it a try myself.

no problem click the hand/thumb symbol at the bottom of my post (next to the Quote and the other 2 bottons) to say thanks saves you the time of posting again (y)

any more problems you know where to find us :D

at first take the lock out and warm it/ dry it with a hair dryer it could be if its been happening for a while that the micro switch in the unit is fubared i was going to strip the lock down and see about a replacement (something with gold contacts from the likes of RS but it hasn't played up since then again i cured the leak and made the locking unit a "cap" by stretching a male contraceptive (no i'm not joking ) over it

Hi guys,
I'm having a similar problem.
I've had the boot lock out, left it on radiators and heated it with hairdryer. I've put it back on and still getting the problem. I accepted defeat and went to buy a new boot lock and latch from my local dealer (£26.40) and it is still telling me my hatchback is open

Open to any ideas...
I have checked for damaged wiring and there is none I can see.

I'm having the same issue, is it the boot lock or one of the other doors? I presume the door symbol flashing is for the boot lid as well, (I don't have a book),

visually checking the wires isn't really enough, you need a diagram and see what voltages/signal you are getting at the lock/switch etc only then can you accurately diagnose where the fault lies. 99% of the time it is the lock so you must be one of the unlucky one's i'm afraid.

p.s. you don't say how old your vehicle is?

Thanks for the reply.
I have a 2008 grande punto.

Ive replaced the lock with a new part from the dealership. I'm good with working on the car but no idea with this electrical stuff... any help muchly appreciated. Which wires should I be checking and what for?

I've got the same issue with my 2007 grande punto sporting and have posted about it in a thread called "Grande Punto Sporting (2007) Dashboard Readout Problem"

My local Hi-Q have quoted me over £100 for the labour to fix the new tailgate latch plus the part itself so nearly £150. (I have zero confidence to fit myself -I know nothing about electrics).

They're also claiming it's the reason my battery recently died and say the newly fitted one will also go the same way if I don't fix the tailgate latch.

Can anyone advise if Hi-Q are correct in putting the two together?

Cheers!

go out and buy yourself a 10mm spanner and a pozzi 2 screw driver + shaped one if you dont have one of each.... the fix will cost you £25 ish max.....

the boot latch will not cause a flat battery as there is a timer that turns off the boot light after about 15 mins......

boot lock is stupidly easy to repair took me literally 5 minutes dare say a total amateur might take half an hour...
