Yesterday evening started the car in the freezing cold and the ASR, Hill Holder and ABS lights came up followed by the display saying that these had failed.
Turned the car off, back on again....Disconnected the 'negative' battery terminal....still the same.
Took it in to Desira, Southgate today who very helpfully hooked it upto the 'Examiner' and did something to it.....either a 'proxy' alignment or re inputted the programme.
They fixed it but said that if it happens again to call and they'll order and fit a new 'Body Computer' for me.
It has happened again....four times infact....sometimes it will reset after switching the engine off....other times it won't.
Now maybe Mr. 'T' can answer this.....surely it's not the computer that's developed a fault....surely it's to do with the 'software'.
Any thoughts/help would be appreciated.

Problem is Superboy by disconnecting the battery you may in fact have very helpfully wiped the codes from several of the ecus. This is a common problem we have with the AA and RAC deleting errors, then three weeks later the customer comes in and expects a fix when the fault hasnt occurred since. If the fault has reoccurred then take it back to Desira and ask then to recheck and explain that you disconnected the battery previously. They may get more info this time.

just taken my car back from getting washed sat morning started it abs failed/hillholder unavailable/esr failed......turned ignition off/tried again guess what it was back to normal all warning lights off will get checked out whrn its serviced 36k:)

My Stilo has had a new body computer after it registered that it had no fuel in all the time :(, it was finally sorted after 6 weeks of not noing how much fuel i had in the car :p

Many thanks for your helpful comments.
I disconnected the 'negative' terminal only after the first time I had the problem.
The problem occured 3 times after that and I took it straight in to Desira....and of course the faults did show up on the 'examiner'.

They did something either a 'proxy' alignment or something else, can't remember.
They told me that unlike when I get problems with the Media Player, disconnecting and reconnecting the battery won't reset and clear the fault, which is what I experienced.

Whilst driving that night it happened again but then about 5 minutes later, whilst still driving, the lights went out and everything was ok.
Then half an hour later the lights and warning buzzer came on again and the fault didn't go away.
After 'T's' comment about the negative battery terminal's possible bad connection, today I disconnected the lead and cleaned the surfaces with sandpaper...they didn't look bad but they're all nice and shiny now.

I reconnected the lead, started the car up and the fault is now gone.

My burning question is: Surely this is a 'SOFTWARE' problem...I seem to remember sometime ago someone saying there was an update for the ASR/Hill Holder/ABS.......or do you clever guys think that it is just an electronic component problem within the body computer and that it's better to replace it?
Presumably this type of problem is only covered under the first 2 years of the 3 year warranty?
Any comments would be appreciated.

lol....lol......well there ya go that's why you're great at what you do and I'm not great at what you do!
Didn't you know I was a 'dunce'....? You've got to spell it out to me!
What is the terminal that has to be checked?
.....and no never got the software updates.
If you could advise me which one's to ask for I would very much appreciate it.
.....Sure would like to take my car into the dealership that you work at :)

If I was that good at my job I wouldn't be doing it but earning a decent wage elsewhere:cry: anyway, yes theres a few issues that appeared as service news to dealers concerning earths but if you have not had the updates first (and i'm think i'm right in saying you have owned your GP for quite a while now) I would get them done first (say dash lights are staying on & could you read errors/check for updates)

warranties usually last to at least 60k on most cars

my stilo is 3rd year dealer warranty with a limit of 60k (need to do another 29k miles to get to that limit in 6 months) :D

What items are NOT covered during the third year/60 mile limit warranty.
For example would the body computer or air conditioning be covered?
