(G) stereo warranty

does any one know how long the stereo warranty is on the blaupunkt head set?
i thought it would be the same 3 years as offered with the car. Is this the case?

Nope, 1 year only, read the warranty docs`.

Unless you have payed more for the warrenty it will be the standard 1 year repair warrenty.

Still well worth a go if it is a technical fault the chances are the manufacturer will fix it for you...... hopefully

mine only playes half a CD (not a big problem, as I have a 2 gig media player plugged in) and when I had it serviced, mentioned it to them, and they said they'd have to send it away to be repaired is this normal practice? I declined, as I don't want to spend my days without music, and I rarely use the CD player....

I would have thought theyd just order a new head unit, then send the broken one back to fiat ?

If it can be repaired (they dont go to in depth but there are many simple easy to fix faults) they will otherwise new unit.Turn around is often only a few days/week......helps your singing improve at least

This is exactly what they said to me.
My service however was 10 days before the 1 year warrenty expired. so my fault was noticed before the warrenty ran out. correct me if i am wrong but that means my claim is still valid and it was their fault that it was not rectified at the time

The warranty booklet states that the radio/CD is NOT covered by the Fiat warranty (along with the tyres), but the way I read it is that Fiat agree to honour the warranty on behalf of blaupunkt..........so in your circumstances I would expect my dealer to remove the radio and return it to blaupunkt, THEY will make the decision to repair or replace then return it as they are providing the warranty, then have my dealer refit it at no cost to me. Which is pretty much what they (and T) have told you they will do. So if it developed a fault 10 days before the warranty expired and you made your dealer aware of this then yes.....I would say Fiat/blaupunkt are obliged to rectify the problem at no cost to you with the proviso that you make it available for repair at the earliest oppurtunity. Be realistic, you cant expect them to replace it if it can be repaired for less than the cost of a new replacement.

Note also the 1 year warranty period begins on the day the car was registered, NOT the day you took ownership.

i wonder how the sale of goods act stands here?
given the car is warrented beyond 1 year and so could be said to be expected to last 3 years minimum.
definatly worth a shot to try and lever a repair under sale of goods regardless of stated warrenty period given the stereo is part of the car and is sold as a feature of the car

Blaukpunt are akward to deal with which dont help

well my mum friend actually works for trading standard and when i mentioned this to her she said that indeed the sales of goods act is a very good way to go about making a claim in this regard because the things fitted should survive the designated life of the car i.e three years or so. She also said that the warrenty should still be valid considering the claim was initiated b4 the 12 month period

My only worry is if i have this much hassel with them over a small issue then i will have problems if a more major fault occurs on the car at a later date.

brake pads/discs/tyres & interior trim (etc....) aren't covered by 3 year warranty though....a more comprehensive list should be supplied when the car is purchased new as this would help...if in doubt phone dealer.

i would think the sale of goods could be used here for sure.
1 year is short in comparison to the cars expected life. personally i would direct this sort of stuff to fiat directly and try and set a presidence
