After many months of debating wheather to exchange my GPS for a Ibiza Cupra Tdi or simply remap mine , i made the decision to get it remapped..I am looking forawrd to getting done and hope it pulls aswell as my previous mapped Fabia Vrs's...Ive not posted on here for a while due to me falling out with my car ...due to niggles that took ages to fix by the dealer i had had enough hence me thinking of changing......However after having a good few months of hassle free motoring and getting used to the handling and power delivery ive started to enjoy the experience of owning the GPS. So im gonna treat it to a much needed power boost.

On a another note my pads need changing and was thinkin of some perfomance ones...what have you guys got on yours...

Cheers

I heart Greenstuff, so much so I haven't bought anything else for years.

My GPS brakes are currently standard.

Dunno if you are doing any trackwork but aren't the GPS brakes pretty good for road use?? I come to the GPS from 20 years of classic daily drivers tho.....

Re-Map is good. However, bear in mind that the next time you take your car to a FIAT dealer for a warranty job they will plug into your OBD2 socket & overwrite your expensive re-map on the ECU with the latest standard FIAT ECU map...... Your money will go down the drain..........

Fiat brake pads are the cheapest. They just cover your wheels with highly corrosive brake dust. "Green" & "Red" Stuff pads are a con. Just buy the cheapest replacement pads available on the net. You won't feel any difference & you won't get half the brake dust on your expensive rims....(y)

So you take it back to Angel, or whoever remapped the car, and they will put the map back on, usually FOC.

Yes. Great - All the hassle & possibly hundreds of miles worth of petrol - plus a day off work. I don't think so... Just buy a tuning box & disconnect it for warranty work!!!

Maybe for you - everyones circumstances are different surely  - just stating the fact that your money is not wasted as such, when the car goes into FIAT.

Mike is this definitely the case?

I was under he impression ecu updates were only part of ecu related warranty work.

Kris, I honestly don't know if a Fiat/Alfa dealer will automatically re-set the ECU to Factory settings. But I would expect them to do so if a later software version is available than that shown on your car.

All I can say from the last 5 years of MY personal experience is that BMW (4 cars owned), VW & Audi (1 car owned of each) plug the dealer computer into the diagnostic port of your car (OBD2 or whatever) & read any fault codes. If they have a newer version of the factory ECU software than is on your car the techie (Quite rightly) WILL automatically update the ECU software - erasing whatever was previously programmed......... As a genuine customer you would expect & wish for this.

Sorry:cry:

Dave... you know about mine... just had it serviced, they plugged their computers in to read for fault codes ect, and my re-map is still there ;)

bob down to awsome on Sat and see it on the rollers! (y)

if you do have a dealer who intends to wipe the map, just give angel a call, there's no driving hundreds of miles, or costs..... they will come out to you and put it back on for free, they will come to you at work if you like, so there is even no inconvienience :) if you want it taken off before going to the dealers, I believe they charge a £25 call out fee for comming and setting it back to standard....

I'm sure you will have a big smile on your face for the next week, (I still do six months later! lol..) as you enjoy your new power (y)

give us a little review when you've driven it a few hundred miles.....

agree and disagree

i agree that greenstuff and redstuff pads are a con and not worth the money, but i disagree that you go out there and just buy the cheapest replacements, i went for the cheap discs and pads on my fiesta and now i have no confidence in braking, always go for middle of the range, usually the best, or original replacements. Yeah the whole idea is that you change the disks to go with the pads. Im sorry but if you change to grooved and drilled disks and change to a 'performance' pad you will notice the increase in breaking effect 'bite' and also notice less fade when using brakes heavily. I also noted my alloys getting less brake dust stuck to them over the OEM pads & Disks.

Ok so whats the best option for pads and discs then ? i did like the brembos and ap racing brakes on my old Leon Cupra R and Ibiza Cupra Tdi so might try and price some of them up
