Hello, just wondering,is it ok to use a high octane fuel in my GP 1.4 8v.do i need to change anything ?

You're not going to improve much by using Super Unleaded as apose to normal Unleaded.

Although I strongly advise Shell over Tesco petrol - I get more mpg out of Shell.

Super Unldead is lost on a 1.4 8V.(y)

Anything is lost on a 1.4 8V Fiat! You are farting against thunder pal. You quite simply can't polish a turd:devil:

Hi Pgpunto, Welcome to the forum.:) I would just use the fuel spec in the handbook and put the savings to using fully synthetic engine oil.

Hello

To answer your other question, no, you won't need to adjust anything.

Modern vehicles have a sensor to detect the point at which detonation (pinking) occurs and adjusts the ignition timing automatically.

So whatever octane fuel is used, cheapo 95 (usually supermarket), normal 97 (premium) or Super 98/99 (v-power/ultimate/etc), the system will constantly adjust... although obviously more power will be available with Super unleaded, the power gains on a N/A engine are minor compared with turbocharged engines, but the benefit to the internals is noticable, as well as 'smoother' running.

Must admit with my poor mpg (currently 28.5) I have thought about using the super unleaded to see if this affects it?? Anyone else noticed poor mpg with a 1.4 sporting?? Fiat say it should be about 32ish but might just be because i am ragging it a bit, or they are driving like a granny!! :D

The only premium fuel I ever buy is vpower. Not because It has a higher RON but beacuse it has cleaning additives, so it's good to put a tank through your engine once in a while, whereas supermarket fuels (or any other fuel in it's market) do not have this.

To be honest mate I wouldn't bother paying the extra for higher RON fuel, any effect would be a placebo.

It would be a waste of money to put 97 RON in it. If you want to clean the injectors etc.,give it a shot of Redex now and again.

Just read through this, and in all fairness my 1.4 8v isnt THAT slow. I thought it was slow but i think it was just me getting used to the car's speed. it beat my friends 1.8 zetec focus. but back to the original question i wouldnt bother spending more money on fuel in it :D

quite awake. and hes a racing car driver. I was suprised that i beat it ot say the least. off the line it beat it. if we kept goin past ridiculous speeds i could see it changing.
